Masters of the Mediterranean - Multiplayer Event 10 + 11 March!

Rome. Egypt. Byzantium. The Mediterranean has known many masters. Now the great powers of the atomic age look to seize this jewel for themselves.

Join the Hearts of Iron team for a multiplayer clash over who can call themselves truly 'the Masters of the Mediterranean'.

We'll be live 1800-2200 CET on the 10th and 11th March over on our twitch, bringing you all the action as it happens. Make sure you set a reminder for the stream with the button on the right!

In this two-day event, a team of Content Creators will attempt to defend their Mediterranean powerbase at all costs.

Challenging them will be Hearts of Iron developers, coming at them from all corners of the world as some of the most powerful nations.

Spearheading the 'Mediterranean Entente' will be:

Bokoen - Portugal

Mordred Viking - Greece

dankus_memecus - Turkey

Feedback Gaming - Spain

Alex the Rambler - Bulgaria

Pitted against them are the Major Powers, determined to see the Mediterranean as their own 'Mare Nostrum'.

Daniel (Senior QA) - Imperial Germany

Robert (Game Designer) - Japan

Drikus (Content Design Lead) - Kings Party United Kingdom

Olle (Programmer) - Trotsky's Soviet Union

Victory in this contest will be determined by the control of certain 'Super Victory Points'; strategic areas considered vital to control of the Mediterranean and her sea lanes.

Each state highlighted above has been given a points value - and whoever controls the most at the end of the two-day event will take home the title of 'Masters of the Mediterranean'.

We'll be casting the event live on our twitch channel, hosted by Count Cristo and our very own Community Manager Josh.

That will be very hard for the Fans.

On the other hand: Guys with 5000 hours competitive Multiplayer experience like Dankus will be not easy to crack, even if they are on minors.

Looking forward to seeing the devs wonder "why can't I push these Turkish divisions with my 7/2 infantry? I thought those were the best divisions?" Or using weird combat width divisions, or mixed tanks, or all the awful things bad players do. But yeah, Dankus and Bokoen should be able to carry this pretty easily and even though Feedback isn't a competitive player he's probably better than the devs by a lot. That being said, it's a wildly unfair scenario so I doubt it will be very fun to watch (or play) if the devs know what they're doing even a little bit.

There's also potential for the Spanish Civil War to be heavily sabotaged since both Germany and the USSR are on the anti-Spain team, there really isn't anything Spain can do to keep them from both sending volunteers to the AI and making the war never end. And AI Italy is a wild card that probably will be pretty useless no matter what happens with it.

No idea how the balance (or clear lack thereof) was determined but it's good to support your streamers so it can help grow the community.

Interesting that HOI's biggest streamer (TommyK) wasn't included, despite him organizing a best of 1vs1 tournament featuring over 250 HOI players and $5k prize money that's been running over the last few weeks (final 8 will be starting soon).

Other interesting HOI4 streamers to consider in the future would be Segpaaa, GrishaPutin (assuming you're ok with the cosplay) and GreenGuy. Their all talented MP'ers and genuinely funny.

Whatever boundaries are established, it should be a fun game to watch.

I used to watch TommyKay and never understood this. He seems pretty chill. Is this a case of he said something bad years ago and is cancelled because of it? None of it really makes sense because several of the people they invited are much more toxic than Tommy is. Dankus and Bo are alright but Tommy isn't? It's even weirder considering how much free promotion Tommy gives their games.

The Paradox event had roughly 1259 viewers.


Then there is the TommyKaye stream of his $5000 challenge (at least, that is what I think is going on).

There's another 3.2k viewers watching the paradox event if you combine the people watching the streamers perspectives (2.5k of that coming from Bokoen). So technically more people are watching this than tommy's tourney.

Overall I'd say the content today was pretty good all around. The streamers were entertaining, discussed a lot of interesting and new strategy, struggled through their unfamiliar surroundings (countries) and worked together (including with follower chat) to try and even the overwhelming odds against them. You could tell they were genuinely having fun, Bo even said as much at the end of his stream.

The only awkward part is when Paradox interviewed the streamers during different 'breaks', the streamers oddly clammed up. Hopefully tomorrow the guys will remember it's a broadcast and they should ham it up and LARP a little. They have no problem filling a weekly 6 hour stream but during a 5 minute set piece they get all shy like a long-tail cat in a room full of rocking chairs. I know they don't want to inadvertently share too much info but they don't even have to answer honestly if they don't want to lol. Tell the interviewer how excited you are that you just finished researching jet fighters in '39, or the secret to your Soviet defense is all about mass scout planes

The problem is you can be cancelled for just about anything. The people of today are soft and squishy. Problem is, life and the world really isn't. But meh. Bring on the x:es.

It'd be nice if they actually tried to re-enact WW2 for once in these streams, instead of always this silly meme stuff. But I understand they need to advertise the content they actually make for the game, so what can you do. I just think it's a shame.

I think one reason why these community events are set up like they are is, that nobody has to play the Nazis.
The winner should celebrate and larp a bit live on the PDX channel.
Doing this as Nazi or Adolf could lead to akward situations.
Having Germany go imperial avoids it.
