Masters & Commanders

A UK CO-OP AAR

Good afternoon gentlemen and ladies, welcome to my new AAR...

It is probably quite easy to deduce certain things from the title of this AAR a few things on how it will be structured. This is quite obviously meant to be a CO-OP where we shall lead the Empire to victory... or ignominy, but more subtlety it can be seen that I have been reading Andrew Roberts very good Masters and Commanders Check it here. It is with this insight in mind that has shaped how this AAR shall run.

I am sad to say that I think that this First UK Co-operative AAR! is now dead and so want to re-create the best parts, but also want to go much quicker than that one did (the play took longer than a day-by-day approach would have, I think).

I will be looking to play a month of game time per week, although maybe more game time before the war and sorter periods during it.

Some sort of political crisis has presented itself in the later stages of 1935 and the King has called for a government of national unity based around the independent Peer, Sir Clive Wolfe, Lord of Singapore. He is currently struggling to balance a truly national government and looks to new faces from across the political spectrum to build up a 'ministry of all the talents'. Thus he has put out feelers to you, the readers of AARland to help him.

Lord Wolfe's government shall be quite centralised, but he is willing to defer to specialists on many issues, and this is how to country will be run;

There will be two overall groups which shall lead the country, the Cabinet (political Masters) and the Committee of Imperial Defence (military Commanders) and the dynamic between these two will run the day to day affairs of the country.

Committee of Imperial Defence

This will be made up of the First Sea Lord & Chief of the Naval Staff (Chief of the Navy) , Chief of the General staff (Chief of the Army) and the Chief of the Air Staff (Chief of the Air Force) and will be chaired by one of the three who will be CIGS (Chief of the Imperial General Staff or just Chief of Staff in HOI III parlance). They will meat with the PM and will be responsible for general military strategy and giving 'recommendations' on production and technology.

The Cabinet

This will be primarily made up of the PM (me) and including, but not limited to, the Chancellor (armments minister), Foreign Minister, Home office (Minister of Security). Other ministerial posts shall also be created if there are is enought people interested in this project. Any political 'war ministers' such as the Secretary of State for War, Secretary of State for Air an the First Lord of the Admiralty will, if needed, be those in the Committee of Imperial Defence, so as not to muddy the waters. The cabinet will chaired by the PM, but will defer decisions to the 'specialists', ie. foreign affairs will be delegated largely to the Foreign Minister, with cabinet approval etc...

So I now ask that people post their characters, some facts about them, their general 'personality', preferred position and HOI traits... to start off I shall post Sir Clive's bio

Name: Sir Clive Wolfe

Preferred Position: Prime Minister

HOI Trait: Old General - +5 Org

Personality: He is a great pragmatist on the political scene, an ex-general who was given his seat in the Lords as a retirement 'gift' from the King. He is passionate about the Empire and will go to great lengths to see that the country becomes the strongest it can be, but is not as concerned with the continent. Is not really concerned about who Britain allies with and has no idealogical 'hang-ups' and just wants to make Britain grater.

Likes; The commonwealth, Japan and Germany (although understands that a conflict with them is almost inevitable)

Dislikes; The French (but see the Entente Cordial as a necessary evil), the Americans (finds them brash, but understands the worth of an alliance) and the USSR, which he sees as the main threat to the Empire.

Traits; Ex-general who saw action in the Boer war and was a general in WWI, has a good if not brilliant strategic mind

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

So please submit your bios below, remember that these people are all fictional (I do not think this way about the the French and Americans for example) and that I am not looking for yes men, some friction will make for a good story.

Also remember that although this is an Alt-History, we shall not be 'going crazy' and building massive tank armies or 50+ carriers, with no good reason. The cabinet and CID will have to be convinced of the merits of such things first.

Thank you for reading, and I hope that there will be sufficient support for this project.

Ok, I will give this a try.

Name:Sir Burds Duke of Lancaster
Preferred Position: Chief of the General Staff (CIGS if needed.)

HOI Trait: Unknown(10 percent speed boost if possible)

Pesonality: A Imperialist, with powerfull ties to the Royal Family. He is however a very progressive militairy thinker who understands the importance of air power and who is a great advocate of mobile forces.
He has been fighting for the moterisation of the army all his live, he has alot of supporters, including Hobart, Hart, and O'Connor but the road has been tough and hard. He is now finally in a position to make a differance and he intends to do so.
If the position becomes free he is also a eligeble candidate for CIGS.

Likes: The Empire, Ghurka's, New Zealand, Australia, Women.
Dislikes: The Americans, Comunism and most of all fascism.

Traits: A man who has plenty of experiance and who is open minded, he has served in WWI as a junior officier and his rise trough the ranks has been extremely fast. He has also served during the Russian civil War, where he met Trotsky, who has remained a great friend, dispite his ideologic sentiments.

He later became Foreign Minster (hopefully)
