In all honesty, its been seen and heard and done a thousand times. Either people will have to stop coming up with stupid excuses or purchase the game. I reserve my judgement on this case, but all evidence suggests, and through a set precident, that he or she has obtained a copy in an ungentlemanly way.

If it wasn't for piracy I would never have known and played games from Paradox.

The first time I stumbled across Europa Universalis 2 was when I saw it available as a cracked download. I downloaded it and played it.

I ordered my copy 1 week after, living in the Netherlands I had to order it online from the U.S. and had to pay a hefty import tax. Same for Hearts of Iron and Vicky, I ordered those from the U.S. as well. I even bought Europa Universalis 1 for good measure when I saw it in a store over here.... but I bought every Paradox game based on the EU2 concept.

I wouldn't have, if it wasn't for that time where I downloaded the game and tried it out, and the helpful and nice community I found here on the forums.
I don't think pirate hunts would have convinced me to buy the game ...

And for the wisenoses out there, I know how many pages the NA manual for EU2 has :p I won't post it here since it would make answering that question a bit too easy.

I was actually considering purchasing HOI1 and the pack (6) associated with it. Banning someone because they don't have a manual and assuming they are a pirate is absurd. Can you find every manual for every game you have...I have 2 kids and some just don't survive a 4 year old. I lost 2 CD's of Empire Earth this way. Had to buy used one's on EBAY to play the game.
Have you ever lost the KEY to a game and now cannot play it but you have the original CD?

As we all know there is much more to be learned in this game than is stated in the manual.

I do particularly appreciate not having to put the CD in every time to play the game.

However,I'm a legitamate buyer and now I'm turned off.

So great... Paradox, you lost a possible pirate and a current cash paying customer with interest in purchasing past and future games.

One must be certain before calling a possible legitimate buyer a Pirate.

The Admiral K
There are several ways that garith77 can prove that he has a legitimate copy of the game and he has - thus far - failed to do so. If/when he does he will be reinstated.

Seriously, I would say it has been proven beyond all reasonable doubt that he is, did you read what he wrote? Hell, people go to jail for less clear evidence than this in some cases.

Proven beyond all reasonable doubt?!

So suspicion of guilt equals proof of guilt? Sounds like the Gestapo to me.

Actually, maybe it's not so funny. I just hope some of these moderators don't have jobs in civil law enforcement.

EDIT:

Just for the record, I too believe it is possible that the guy plays with a pirate copy. But as someone else pointed out, it is quite harsh to hang people on mere suspicion.

It is this witch-hunt mentality that I object to. It makes the forums look like a mad sect. If I myself should ever temporarily or permantently lose my manual, I will make sure to remember never to mention it on the forums.

Nope, as I said beyond reasonable doubt. There is no proof in the world that is 100% foolproof. Here we have a guy who A does not have the manual, who B implies he pirated the game with his use of " ;) " and who C gives an excuse for not having the manual which is about as believable as aliens mind controlling Usama Bin Laden. He also implies that C is a made up excuse with excessive use of smilies.

Let me thus repeat myself:

Proven beyond all reasonable doubts.

So you and I have different views of what constitutes reasonable doubts. I still think that the dog destroying his manual is more believable than aliens mind controlling Bin Laden.

Are you implying that Aliens were NOT mind-controlling Osama Bin Ladin?

Sources, please?

but thanks for the answer
The administrators have an email address that he is refered to in order to resolve any/all issues or disputes with the forum. He need only contact them via their e-mail and follow their instructons to prove that he has a legit copy of the game.

Paradox has, I think, a surprisingly relaxed policy with regards to piracy. They do not allow people to participate as members in the forum if they steal their products. If you obtain the game illegally then you're gone. Their surprisingly relaxd policy does allow that if you later buy the game and submit proof that you've done so then Paradox will usually re-instate your account. All things considered, that's better than the thief deserves.

And I hope you don't either. People are not banned from this board for piracy without there being reasonable grounds for doing so. Disciplinary actions are not handled or discussed in the public forums. For that we use PM and/or email (I trust you have heard of these) so you lack the information to form a reasonable opinion.

Fascinating discussion, however it is also against board rules. If you have a problem or issue with a staff decision you are required to use a PM to voice your concern, not a public forum.

The forums are for discussion of games, not board policy or staff decisions.
