So it's 128MB graphical memory minimum ... too bad. Now I'll have to use my desktop-computer for playing. Gone are the lazy days of sitting on the sofa, cradling my laptop and conquering the world.

... No, wait. There are still Vicky and HoI! :D

Just shove it into the right slot on your mainboard (if it fits, it's the right one) and install the appropriate driver. And just for the record: you need to turn the computer off, while installing the card. Newer mainboards don't mind being worked on while under power but you risk an electric shock.

If you have a very old mainboard, you'll want a PCI-card (good luck finding one), normally you'll need an AGP-card. Newer mainboards support and newer cards need PCIe (PCI express), but I don't think your's will. Also you wouldn't get a PCIe-card for €50.

Just google for the info.

By the way: here is a nice How-To with photos explaining it all (thanks, Google).

Edit: Searching for "how to install graphics card" will give you a bunch of results, some with very detailed photo-instructions.

My situation: System specs beat the requirements (sempron 2.8k; 1k ram) but I still got a graphic card on board.
if i buy a card which is simply meeting the graphic card requirements but not more, will the game run smoothly or will it run but like mess?
what amount of money should i invest for a graphic card, that makes the game well playable (but which won't be in use for any other game)?

And remember, when changing cards, wear anti-static wristband. You do NOT want to destroy your computer :( :( That what happen to my last computer *sniff* Btw, I just recently bought RAM cards so I have 1.5 GB instead of 512 MB :) At least my computer is faster just in time for EU3 :)

Cheers

The best method is to wait for the demo. Then we'll find out, if a card with more features than the known specs will have any advantage. Personally I can only imagine a gain from having 256 MB instead of 128 MB.

how well should EU3 run in this system

2.4ghz processor
712 RAM (not sure but its 700 something)
Geforce 6200 with 256 RAM (AGP)

i did try the demo but it seemed to run a bit slow bit i expect the demo has not been performance optimized as good as the full game.

PS: i am wanting a new computer but currently don't have the funds so don't tell me to upgrade

How should I upgrade my machine to better run EU3?

Here are my specs:
Pentium 2.4 GHz
1 gig RAM
Radeon 9600

EU3 runs poorly even at 1024x768. It's playable, but only barely. You know how on the main menu screen, when you mouse over one of the buttons, it lights up? Well in my game, after you mouse over, it takes several seconds (literally) to light up. It's pretty slow. The only time the game runs fast is if I am staring at Terra Incognito.

So what should I upgrade? I don't think I need RAM, because there's not alot of hard drive accessing (that I can tell). The Radeon 9600 meets all the requirements (pixel shader, 128 megs of memory) for the game. The only one I am unsure of is the processor. The minimum needed is 1.9 GHz. Should I upgrade that?

I appreciate any and all thoughts and suggestions. Thank you.

your machine should be good enough. Before buying a new machine, try this:

Remove programs you don't need from the machine.

Run disk cleanup. right click start->right click harddrive->disk cleanup,

Only startup programs you need:Start->run, tpe msconfig->startup.

Run defrag.

I tried the demo version on my laptop when it was released and it lagged like hell. My laptop is top of line and cost me around 25.000 swedish kr wich is aprox 3000$. It has a ati x600 card i think or an x800, 2gig ram etc.. . Wich should be enough...
I recomend u play it on your stationary comp for optimal experience.

Hehe, tough luck.

I'm playing on my Macbook (CoreDuo 2.0GHz, 2GB RAM), and I have no performance issues at all. Runs great, even though my poor Intel GMA950 has to draw this huuge ocean with waves all over the world.

So...I'm really looking forward to a fix for us Intel users. Version 1.2, Anybody?

My $0.02

Just thought I'd let people know you don't need a particularly modern PC to play EU3. My beast is getting a bit long in the tooth and plays the demo with no problems.

AMD 1800+
nForce2 motherboard
1 gig DDR-266 ram
ATI x700 AGP graphics card

I did buy the x700 new, but you can probably pick one up now for well under $100 on eBay. It also comes in a PCI-E version, but if you have a motherboard that supports that you probably want a newer graphics card anyway. :)

I too has a less than state of the art system here and I loaded EU3 for the first time last night, played about five years worth of game time and it smoked. Here is my setup:

Motherboard: Asus A7N8X2 nForce2 AGP
CPU: Athlon XP 2500+ (1.84GHz)
Memory: 1GB DDR-SDRAM (334MHz)
Video: Nvdia GeForce 6800GS AGP 256MB *

* - this is the major upgrade I did last year to play another game (Titan Quest), without which I wouldn't be able to play EU3 now. The card cost me US$150 last summer, I think the GeForce 6800XT is its replacement and it goes for about the same. Great card, highly recommended and to me its fan is no more noisy than the rest of the system. If your system doesn't have AGP or PCIexpress, it really is time to upgrade. My next system will be a dual Athlon 64.

Well guys, I have tried everything and the game is still slow. I have defragged, I have upgraded my video card, I have disabled every non-important background program, I have tried all kinds of resolutions, including my native resolution (this is a LCD monitor) and no go.

Please, please, please, if anyone has any ideas, let me know before I go out and buy some new hardware. Of even if you think I need new hardware, let me know. I just really really want to enjoy this game but it doesn't seem to want to work for me.

Here are my specs again:
Radeon 9600
2.4 ghz pentium
1 gig RAM

stevekl i dont think you need any new hardware unless there is sth wrong with your gfx card which would show in other games.

you said you upgraded your gfx card, do you mean you updated your drivers?

if so i hope you used the ATI cleaner tool that is on their homepage because this can be really an issue with ATI cards.

this is the only reason i can think of at the moment why EUIII would run slow on your comp after all you did.

also do you have the full version?

because the demo lagged on my sys while the full game does not.
