Does anyone know, if this game scales, i.e. adapts to the performance of your computer? I can imagine that RAM wouldn't be very scalable but usually graphics are.

I just ask, because the system requirements listed on Paradox' homepage are not divided into minimum- and recommended-sections.

As I understand it you must have a 128mb graphiccard that supports pixelshader 2.0.

My current graphics card doesn´t support pixel shader 2.0. I was thinking of buying a Sapphire Radeon 9550 128mb, so I can play EU3. Just want´t to make sure that it will do and I can play. My specs besides the graphics card is XP 1900+ and 1 GB RAM.

And will the game play well enough to be worh buying a new card (I´m getting the card used)?

Was there ever any official word on whether or not EU3 will support dual processors? If that is not enabled in this game then most likely any type of Pentium 4 should run the game just fine because if the developer didn't feel liking coding it to run on two cores, it probably does not need that much processing power.

Also, just a little info on Intel processors.

The Core 2 Duo is a slightly optimized Core Duo Processor with x64 bit enabled as well as x32 bit. Intel made claims that the Core 2 Duo runs %30 faster on average, than a comparable Core Duo. These claims are not true and it is only marginally faster. However I am sure EU3 does not utilize 64 bit code so anyone with just Core Duo should only be worried about what kind of video card they have.

Pentium 4's and the Pentium D's are widely disliked because they generate a lot of heat and use a lot of watts to power them. This means they are bad candidates for over clocking and generally an inefficient architecture. They are not as bad for gaming as a lot of people make them out to be.

The only Intel people that should be worried are those with Celeron processors. I hope I don't eat my own words in the near future!

Your graphic card doesn't support pixelshader 2.0, so EU# will not work.

The Radeon 9550 128mb is a very weak card but I guess you are low on cash since you want this but if you must have a cheap card, go after a Radeon 9600 128mb and upwards (dont buy SE editions, these are severly crippled version)

I wonder why ýou can´t play the game at a lower setting. To me fancy graphics matter little so I would defenitely settle for a little more dull picture ;) I was really lucky to spot this thread becuase otherwise I would have thought that a game like EU III would be playable on a computer with five years on its neck.

I guess I have to wait buying the game until I change my computer which will happen in a year or so.

Generally, one should not expect a five year old computer to manage any game released now.

As to the reasons - using Pixel Shader 2.0 is a vast advantage for the developers.

Perhaps not but developers should perhaps not expect consumers to buy a brand new computer all the time. Many EU players are not fanatics who will buy the latest grapic card to play a new game and personally I will not buy a new computer because I must have it to play a game no matter how much I would like to play so EU III will have to wait a while;)

Pixel Shader 2.0 is not "the latest graphic", it is a standard from 2004 and you can get a card supporting this for €50. I can understand the frustration, but Paradox have to keep up with times too...
