I was trying to vassalise Byzantium as Brandenburg, and I just needed to pump up relations to +190, everything else looked green.
Then I switched tags to Prussia, and suddenly I have a -50.000 modifier from Byzantium called "distance between borders" when I try to vassalise them.
I re-started EU4, I waited a month, still the same. What gives?
edit: I even have this modifier with Wallachia, whom I border directly.........................
