It's becoming clear that a real settlement on Mars will require both domes and a network of interconnecting tunnels. MIT recently produced a prize-winning design and Elon Musk has stated that his interest in the Boring company is for eventually tunneling for Mars colonies.

What role, if any will tunnels play in "Surviving Mars"?

well i guess we could have something like a subterrain level map that connects to the surface kind like heores might and magic 5 did but instead of built up dungeons you have to dig around to even start exploring the subterain level. you probably could find subterain caves (possibly also find caves on the surface of mars that leads underground), resources and maybe some sort of sci fi stuff subterain like the remains of an anchient crashed ship or subterain life. there could be new threats underground as well like collapse that could even affect the surface poisonous gasses, getting lost in unexplored subterain caves, lava etc.

Bryartuck...before Starcraft II was Age of Empires III and II. and before Age of Empires was Starcraft, and before that, was Warcraft... What they all have in common is not what other games they were like but that they were each GREAT games. At the end of the day, all a gamer wants to do is play a great game.

priamossz, I like your thinking. See how much this opens up the game and the genre to new possibilities while also grounding it in more realistic science?

:)

Obviously the canals are the remains of the tunnels from our ancestors' first terraforming efforts. So perhaps the canals will be a good place to build new tunnels, and to look for ancient artifacts?
