Counting the +s and -s I should be able to do this but the game says no. Are there some hidden modifiers?

Political Concerns is basically an automatic screw you. The game can't support maluses above 5, so political concerns is either ridiculously high or an automatic fail.

Okay thanks, I don't see cause for political concern though. It's the same family and if this betrothal doesn't go through the kid'll marry someone else and it basically amounts to the same thing. Logically speaking. From their perspective their family continues on the throne of the Holy Roman Empire and could be set to also become the emperor of Byzantine. So I think there's room for improvement with this political concern modifier.

Thing is, that gives your kid the possibility of inheriting Byzantium, and the AI doesn't want that too badly (EDIT: or just a plain AI fuckup)

Yea, I've seen the same. Especially when inviting people to plots. Generally, waiting until the next month or bribing a bit more helps.

Speaking of political concerns, does anyone know where i can find these modifiers? Or are they hard-coded inside the launcher itself or somewhere similar?
The launcher doesn't have anything short of bare neccesities - it's in the game .exe, all neatly compled.

What is the purpose of this marriage from your perspective?
