So recently the strait between Kent-Calais was removed. This make France so much more boring :( It was stated by @DDRJake that it was due to the AI not being able to handle it yet in other streams we saw how England used it to conquer France and England fall due to it. How is this imbalanced? Against the player yes it is, but what happened to all the justifications used for strait before you removed it? At least let it make it to 1.16 and if it is imbalanced remove it in 1.16.1 or 1.16.2. Give it a chance for people to play around with at least before you vasca it.

If they thought it was beneficial then I was happy to give it a try as it should have made the UK a more useful ally given that they wouldn't need to use transports to reach France. The big negative would be that once France becomes a bit more powerful there isn't really anything to stop them taking Southern England as well which would be a bit rubbish and lots of people have already complained about this.

Whether it is removed or not I dont know, but I can assure you that yes, it's imbalanced. The English AI couldn't make it work. I know because I tried modding such a strait in myself before and played countless games where, over 80% of the time, Burgundy or Frane would eat up southern England forthwith. The devs probably thought they could use a Naval-themed DLC to improve on that and figured out its not possible given current mechanics and AI.

Once England loses Kent to a continental power, its pretty much over for Britannia. Theyll never again win a war againt them.

I'm glad it's gone & that the dev's listened.

In an expansion about Naval supremacy, it was very odd that they'd add more straits. Straits essentially diminish the need for navies which seems entirely counter productive give the name of the expansion.

That's a shame. I was looking forward to doing a Plantagenet conversion game and having my empire name stretch over both France and England. :(

I was looking forward for the Strait as well but I rather have it when the AI is ready than prematurely, so can't wait for it to come back like the phoenix :p

Could tell us what "making the AI able to handle it" implies in this case? You mean balancing how strong England is against France? Or how clever the AI is? Unit pathfinding?

Is this expansion even about naval supremacy? This expansion does hardly anything at all to navies and it certainly doens't make navies more important, so if it actually is about naval supremacy, it could have fooled me otherwise.

If the AI can handle straits well, that implies it can handle navies well (they interact with straits). Otherwise, what does an AI that can't handle navies well, but can somehow handle straits well look like?

Troops crossing long straits through navies without significant naval logistics requirements is something that is not correct from a history standpoint. The question then becomes: why does it make the gameplay better?

If the answer is something alone the lines of patching out -110% maintenance it's one thing. If it's an answer similar to that of regency councils blocking war declarations or the primitive ship nerf...well let's just say that it doesn't actually make the game better.

we'd have time to make the AI able to handle it well.

What exactly would that look like? I would imagine it means forcing the AI to sit a fleet on the strait during wartime because any thing short of that would not be even remotely sufficient.

It only takes 8 days to cross the strait and 6 days when using forced march, meaning as soon as the blockading navy moves more than a couple of provinces away an army could easily cross the straight and once Kent is captured the legions of hell(France) will be able to march over the strait to their hearts content due to the rather dumb strait changes.

The strait was added with the condition that we'd have time to make the AI able to handle it well. We got it to handle it OK so there was a bit of a discussion about whether to keep it but ultimately I decided on the cautious approach and removed it. It may appear again in the future if we feel confident about it at that point.

Could you please remove Gibraltar strait as well? It'll be hell for Maghreb AIs to defend from Iberian/European hordes. Unless they are buffed and harder to conquer.
