  • Crusader Kings III Available Now!

The realm rejoices as Paradox Interactive announces the launch of Crusader Kings III, the latest entry in the publisher’s grand strategy role-playing game franchise. Advisors may now jockey for positions of influence and adversaries should save their schemes for another day, because on this day Crusader Kings III can be purchased on Steam, the Paradox Store, and other major online retailers.

    Real Strategy Requires Cunning

This thread is more than 5 months old.

It is very likely that it does not need any further discussion and thus bumping it serves no purpose. If you feel it is necessary to make a new reply, you can still do so though.

I might also recommend you do something to reduce the file size of your images, this page took me a while to load and I have a cable modem.

you seem to be using .png format, which you could easily convert to .jpg with no loss of clarity ... not sure why as you don't have that many images but the aar is very slow loading

interesting to see such an aggressive start with Italy

You're still using the Militias you retrieved from Ethiopia. Any plans what will happen with those? Update into something else or disband once more IC is available for regulars?

What are your spies doing?

With Spain gone, I assume there'll only be Hungary left in Europe, since you seem keen on avoiding a border with the Soviet Union. This could mean a time of preparation until late '39.

At this point, I need them bacause my army is still small. It seems the option of upgrading units as existed in SF is no longer here, I will probably keep a few for anti-partisan duty while disbanding the rest when more properly trained troops arrive. Will i recieve manpower when disbanding? I have not tried this before as I recall...

I haven't really prioritized spies as Italy has limited leadership, just keeping some in my neighboring countries and the UK. And of course counterintelligence in Italy.

Spain is not gone yet, but I assume they will be pretty soon. As I know nothing about what will happen in '39 I will constantly be on the alert for changes in threats and such. It seems Hungary is pretty close to Germany both geographically and politically, and I will leave them to Germany to deal with. When it comes to bordering the Soviet Union my army is far too small. But I have plans for this to change, and maybe then go for Turkey?

You need to edit out the naughty armband the Fuehrer is wearing in one of your images there. I might also recommend you do something to reduce the file size of your images, this page took me a while to load and I have a cable modem.

I'm surprised you built a Carrier, there's nothing you should really need it for.

thanks, that armband slipped my mind - changed it for another more famous picture.

I will use smaller pics from now on. I didn't notice the loading time - I guess i just have a good connection

The carriers are built for naval supremacy :) and national pride. I don't have much experience with naval units, and none as Italy. Do you mean I would have been better off building naval bombers or tacticals to control the mediterranean?

I seem to recall that upgrading is still possible, but then again I rarely play unmodded games.

However, you do get manpower back if you disband units.

Ok, I will look into it, it would be nice to upgrade african spearmen to italian alpine specialists :)

Will I get full manpower back, do you know?

Afaik you get every man back. However if supported properly (eg with artillery) the Militia could still be useful as occupation force, because they require a lot less officers per brigade than regular infantry. You'd have to research their weapons too, though.

Good idea, I am researching them already since they are the same tech as garrisons and I use them a lot in ports and other key points. Officers are a real problem, and it will not get better as I expand my army. Militias will be kept, at least some of them

Intreting. I wonder, however, isn't your threat towards USA extremely high by now? I fear they will join Allies and DoW Germany the minute they DoW Poland. That would be interesting though :)

Against the AI I don't think you need to build anything to help you dominate the Mediterranean. So if you do think you want extra help, I would pick units that can then be easily redirected to helping you on land if you decide to participate in fighting the USSR. I've conquered the Pacific with three Light Cruisers as the Guangxi Clique so I know it isn't too hard to run circles around the Royal Navy.

January 5. 1939

On the central front the spanish are counterattacking against the weak bands of colonial troops and we have to retreat and regroup.

hoi31.jpg

January 26.
The fronts are linked, but we run into some serious supply issues. Almost the entire central and north fronts are out of supply. Three divisions of mountaneers in the north and the corps attacking from the south are the only exception.

hoi33i.jpg

Our troops around Zaragoza are attacked by the vicious spaniards while out of supply and have to retreat after heavy losses. At this point I start to feel a bit overstretched...

hoi36.jpg

But our forces from the south are very successful, and are by early february approaching Madrid.

March 20. 1939

After the fall of Madrid, La Coruña in the north west is taken by the mountaneers. Finally, they surrender.

hoi320.jpg

By now, Italian control streches from the Black Sea to the Atlantic and overstretched is now my middle name. Too few divisions and too little supply to support them when in action. I really hope this will change for the better when we have rebuilt the spanish industry...

Anyway, it's time for reorganisation and reinforcing. We don't want to risk losing Spain the first month in a war with the French...

May be the out of supply issue arose from the AI? I mean, you had like 5 ports, that actually should suffice.

Regarding upgrading, you need to get your African Spearmen to Italy proper as you can't upgrade in conque... eh liberated areas.

Your really should assign commanders to your navies if you plan to make use of them. If anything, they'll gain experience.
