OK, I know this is an IGC question, but...
#
When another military alliance goes to war, I find that thier troops march right across my territories to get to the field of battle. (playing 1.09, & IGC)
This is really handy for them, but I cannot replicate this feat - if I want to attack anybody I have to be dirctly adjacent or use boats.
Is this a bug and can I do anything to fix it?
I think it's a question for Doomdark,,,
Ideally, I would like the same freedom of movement - not that I enjoy loosing troops to attrition before they get to the battle, but, but mainly because France is looking pretty weak, and I want some..
(as for Spain & Austria in alliance, is there any way I can get a crwobar between them? it would really help - this is not a serious part of the question)

OK.... You/Computer can march through another nation's territory if:

* You are Holy Roman Emperor, and the country you march through is part of the Holy Roman Empire
* The country you march through is your vassal
* The country you march through is in your alliance and your alliance is at war

And u are still in thje same war, as in no separate peaces because then u can't run thru their territory anymore because ur in "separate" wars.

And it's nowt to do with IGC.

I suspect you were witness to the powers of the HRE. (See above.)

As for Spain & Austria in alliance, is there any way I can get a crwobar between them?

Matters who you are playing. If your goal is an alliance with one, in order to make war on the other, I'd side with Austria. Spain's later BB wars can be quite taxing on any alliance. Send state gifts to Austria, RM's, high Catholic tolerance...the usual stuff...to get on her good side.

Now Spain and Austria's interest will usually conflict after a while. Both seem to put a high value on controlling N. Italy. When this breakdown happens, move in and present yourself as an alternative to Spain and create an alliance with Austria. This will put you in a good position to counter Spanish aggression in Italy and achieve your overall goal of a solid anti-Spanish alliance with Austria.

There are other methods of course. This is the method I have used successfully in the past.

I am Saxony here , and it';s Austria who keeps marching across my territory, so now I know.
BTW..
Can you have a protestant Holy ROman Emperor?
or chould i just mop up the rest of Germany first,
switch religion and put on the crown.
(not too arrogant?)

Can you have a protestant Holy ROman Emperor?

Short Answer: Yes, but only for a short time.

Long Answer: It can happen that England or Bohemia will become HRE and then convert. When this happens they will only be HRE until the monarch dies. At the next "election" a Catholic king will be elected.

See the HRE thread in the FAQ for all you will ever want to know about the election, the powers, the strategy....

Which is one reason why I hope that the Hansetag and similar bodies are actually changed every x years in EU2 - okay it looks odd to say that they *died,* but they do have to be re-elected every so often, or at the very least, the composition of it changes as members die off and are replaced. Having Hansetag succeed Hansetag every 10 years, with identical monarch values each time, would be a reasonable bodge-solution. :)

It sounds to me like either Spain or Austria is marching their troops across your territory. That's probably because one of them is currently the Holy Roman Emperor. The Emperor is entitled to freely march his troops (during wartime) across any part of the HRE. That's one of the benefits of being elected the HRE.

There are reports of the Iroqois chieftain Wise Bear being elected the Holy Roman Emperor once... extremely weird
