Playing as the USSR (1.06c).

It's March, '41 and war has yet to break out. The Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact has not fired. I noticed that earlier, say early 1939, Poland joined the Allies. I dont know if that presents Germany with a different set of variables. I'm itching to get started, especially now that my tech is looking really nice. However, I'm concerned that if I DOW Finland, they'll join the Allies.

I did have the Molotov-Ribbentrop event fire initially, and I asked for the 'Unholy Alliance.' To my surprise, it fired. So, I saved the file and quit. I then reloaded my latest save before the Molotov-Ribbentrop event would have fired, but it never did, at least not yet.

Has anyone been down this road? Options?

Finally things are beginning to perk up. I became weary of waiting around for the Mol-Rib Pact, and the ability to force Estonia et al to surrender land; therefore, I convinced Finland to join the Comintern, after initiating a successful coup and then influencing the new Finnish government.

The very next day (Feb. 5, 1942) the Allies DOW'ed Germany. I'm now moving my forces south to prepare an invasion of Germany's weaker allies. I will need to be on the lookout for German forces heading east through Poland. I doubt they'll offer Germany much resistance.

Look in your history file via the ledger (F6). History is the last page in the ledger. Go back to August 1939 and see what happened over the Danzig crisis. It looks like Germany backed down and did not demand Danzig when the event fired.

When I play the Soviets I tend to have some kind of house rule like "No attacking Germany or it's allies until June 22, 1941." If you want to get into the action sooner, should the Danzig event not fire to start the war in Sept. 1939, you can just reload as Poland and declare war on Germany if the event fails to start the war.

There are several routes to victory for the Soviets: a high-risk run for me tries to annex Sinkaig and Nationalist China and kick Japan off the mainland in 1939 before Germany attacks Poland. Conservative play is to build up for a potential Jan. 1940 attack by Germany. If that doesn't come by say Jan. 1941 the Soviets should be ready to attack in any case.
