I have recently given up my Chimu play through and was looking for something new in South America and wanted to try Mapuche. With Chimu, even though I conquered most of the uncolonized provinces next to me pre 1500, I was unable to reform before the Spanish stomped into unrecoverable debt. I liked the Mapuche ideas better than most other South American ideas, and thought they would be cool, but I think I'll probably experience similar problems of far too powerful Europeans crushing me before I can westernize. I don't have this problem in North or Central America, so I was looking for tips. My current idea is to make sure I migrate inland so I cant be immediately attacked, then build a powerbase through either colonization or conquest of Inti nations. I eventually want to control South and Central America, the Caribbean, and vassalize Spain and/or Portugal because it would be hilarious. Suggestions?

Tribes with government type "native council" will be reworked next patch, they will become more interesting to play.
But if you don't want wait the new patch and want play in the current version, don't worry about reform, currently native councils can reform just by gradually paying monarch points and bordering a non-native country, it is guaranteed that when the first european country appears you are already ready to click in a button and reform.
The real difficulty is that native councils can't fabricate claims and colonize very slowly, so, even when you instantly reform when the first european arrives in America your economy will be weak and your army small, my suggestion is migrate to near Andes and declare no-cb wars to conquer lands of Calchaqui, Charca or Pacajes (what of them attack first will depend of alliances in Andes), go slowly, you need monarch points to buy "native advancements", when the first european arrive in your borders click in a button to reform and prepare your army, andeans allies will not be useful, AI is not capable of reform his religion.

If you want wait the next patch the gameplay will be more interesting but it will be very different and everyone will needs relearn.

Hmmm, I'll probably wait for the next patch then, thanks.
