It's good that EUII will have a choice of resolutions. From the screens shown, the maps are basically the same, meaning they are drawn on the screen as bitmaps rather than as vector graphics.
What this means is that you know in advance where America is, and where the gold is. With a vector based approach, it wouldn't be too difficult to have a truly New World to play with, one in which Columbus doesn't know where the next continent is (I know that many players will find this not historic, and it isn't, but it would be just an option).
I guess that won't happen. Pity... But I'll still buy EUII!
