Was a witness to this. Definitely not random mineral deposits. Some anomalies were different, and the tech tree is different but the first anomaly was always the same and the mineral deposits were always the same quality and same size pools. Very disappointing if the game goes live with this.

Each location on Mars results in a different, procedurally generated map, but if you pick the exact same location again, the map will be the same. You can think of the map coordinates as the procedural generation "seed".
There are tens of thousands of possible locations - so if you want variety, you can get variety.

The named locations are about a dozen, hand-picked EASY locations recommended for first-time players, but nothing stops you from playing elsewhere.

EDIT: replaced 'random' with 'procedurally generated' to make it even more clear how it works.

Is there any ability to create our own seeds for higher difficulties not shown on Mars?

Not in the initial release - the maximum is about what some streamers have already encountered, in the high 400s.

We're watching carefully the initial reactions to the difficulty of the game and will react accordingly - that's all I can say for now :)
