It was working before an update to the game...I'm on linux. Now, HoI is unplayable, and the terrain map in EU is see through. Any ideas?

You could try opengl.
Steam -> right click Hoi4 -> settings -> launch options -> type in -opengl

Probably the best to report it as a bug.
Or if it is consistent and still exists from many patches ago, look online for fixes, there likely already exist.
