Cool, I wonder if there will be a need for mapmodes (I honestly don't know yet, haven't played the game)

Zoft has promised that we will add map modes in one of the earlier patches if the demand for it is high enough.
Replying just to add one more voice saying that demand is high.

As someone who mostly plays PDS games on pause, map modes and ledgers and pie charts (here's looking at you Vicky 2) are a big part of what I enjoy as I fiddle with the details of my glorious empire before deigning to let the clock tick.

Multiple long threads of every respondent wanting them... Doesn't get more highly demanded than this.
The only map modes I could see being useful for Stellaris are diplomatic ones.
People have also mentioned map modes for species and for ethics, though because of the granularity involved, those would not show full detail and be somewhat hard to develop. Still, a version which shows majorities is better than the "have to look at each planet individually" that we have now.

Is there somewhere people should be going to make this request heard, other than using this forum?

To add my two cents, map modes are an important part of a strategy game experience. Seeing at a glance who likes you and why, who is allied or in a federation with whom, and so on, is a huge benefit. It's annoying to have to go into some other game menus to find that basic information. I think map modes like this are just a natural way of presenting data to the player.

map modes in general would be neat

paradox players are great at spotting things and all
but when you cram everything in one map mode it becomes hard to spot everything even for eagle eyed paradox players

I second the demand for a diplomatic mapmode. Additionally it may be wise to make some of the now existing icons toggleable or hid in a mapmode. Especially if the coming DLCs add to the complexity and add more icons.
