Late in the game, my map has turned black and gray. How can i get it back to normal?

I get exactly the same problem - since i swithched to the new downloaded version. After a number of turns the country tiles goes close to monochrome dark and light grey and its very tough to get the colours back - usually a total system re-start. Graphically this version is very unstable at the moment.
Another thing is now the screen overall flickers madly and its quite disconcerting, somethimes it blacks out completely for a fraction of a second,. but generarally it just dims and flickers constantly.
