Speaking of cultures and the new development system.. I wonder how Accepted Cultures is going to work now. If we keep adding in more minor 1 or 2 province cultures, its going to be harder and harder to get cultures accepted. It'll be interesting.
Buff to humanism?

Yeah, I agree. If we have one province Crimean Goths and Old Prussians why not other one province cultures such as Manx, Anglo-Irish or Normano-Gaelic. :ninja:
Old Prussians are currently just ridiculous. Old Prussians in reality lived in Prussia (as name implies!).

I'm assuming you can increase the basetax of non-accepted cultural provinces to get them accepted.

Buff to humanism?

Humanism is already pretty OP as it is, especially in comparison to Religious (which you actually have to work for). Just combine the right ideas and policies, add autonomy to every new conquest, and never worry about another revolt, unaccepted culture or heathen faith again.

It's not about only majorities, but also about population spread and also about nobility/cities and overall regional control. Romanians were:
a) mostly rural
b) spread out
We also don't have any hard data for population numbers.

As a result we can't say anything for sure, except that there should be at least a minimal representation of Romanians in Transylvania, and I'm sure Wiz is aware of this.

So chill ;)
Yes it is about majorities.
What other excuse is there for bloody Crimean Goths or Cornish ?

I`m not saying that Transylvania should me 100% Romanian because that would be wrong but not 100% Hungarian either.
Szeklerland should be Hungarian and we also need a Saxon province that should be south of Szeklerland.

I'm sure that they'll take this into consideration. To give you a point of reference, in 1.8 and 1.9 Paradox devs have added national ideas for Wallachia, Moldavia, Romania and Transylvania based on suggestions from the community, from the modders, while previously they had the pathetic generic ideas.

So they are open to improving things and I was just pointing out that there's no need to be aggressive about it ;)

Palanga beach has a lot of hot chicks! I recommend it. Inexpensive beer and refrechments too.
Well, that could be represented by a province modifier.

As far as I know, they shouldn't be Saxon. German? Yes. Saxon? No. It was mostly Germans from the Hesse-Rhineland region IIRC.

As for the map changes... Good that you are finally adding more provinces to Europe, but the quality of the changes are really disappointing. I know several modders who could do far better with their eyes closed and both hands tied behind their backs, but I guess most people won't care.

Oh, and Lithuania should have a coastline in 1444. Not because they had a port there (they didn't. Palanga was a joke), but because the TO and LO did not border each other in 1444.

There is a gargantuan whole in their team when it comes to Romanian history, that is the truth. Hah...I dare them to change one Polish province to German....just for laughs and see what happens.

I`m not aggressive, I`m underlining on how ridiculous this whole situation is.We have Crimean Goths, who weren`t the high class at all, yet there isn`t a single Romanian province in Transylvania even if some Romanians converted to Catholicism and kept their ranks.

As far as I know, they shouldn't be Saxon. German? Yes. Saxon? No. It was mostly Germans from the Hesse-Rhineland region IIRC.
True that.Maybe we should call them Transylvanian Germans in game.

I think this map underlines vary well where they settled and where the Hungarians were an absolute majority.

EDIT. Stupid Auto-correct.

Oh, definitely not all of Transylvania. Making Transylvania 100% Romanian would be as silly as having it be 100% Hungarian :)
Currently Transylvania has 5 provinces. I think the best option would be to add 1 Romanian province and 1 or even 2 German ones. The Romanian one should come from splitting up current Maramoros into Maramoros (Romanian majority for a very long time; it was a mountainous region where the Romanian/Vlach shepherds lived for a long time and actually started many of their long migrations that brought them even to far away places such as Moravian Wallachia in Bohemia of all places! :) ) and Zakarpathia (Ruthenian). The Ruthenian one probably needs another name.

For the German ones, a Saxon one could come from splitting Hunyad in two, making a new province around Hermanstad (Sibiu). Similarly for Bihar: split it up adding a Swabian province around Sathmarer.

Something like this, I'm sure there are modders who can explain it better than me.

Having Slovaks in Northern Hungary wouldn't hurt either, but I know I'm pushing it :p

I like the idea. And i'm saying this as a hungarian, but as oblio i live too in Transylvania and i really hope that one day this region will be as detailed and historical as other in Europe.

Every Wednesday from now until the next expansion hits I'll be posting a screenshot of the map changes in Europe. The screenshots will be chosen largely by whim and may be of new provinces, changed cultural setups, or country development levels.

Today, we mourn the demise of the 100% historical Square Memel, and introduce this ahistorical monstrosity:

I would like a quiet moment, please.

Hype for Italy, and in particoular that round island that is the capital of a famous republic of merchants

Gotland.:) Wait, wrong forum.

I find it funny how a thread about map changes in one, relatively small part of the map can get as many answers as a thread on major, global changes to warfare.

Will there be any optimisation of the game in the patch with the new map? It would be a huge help for those without the most newest, most epicest, most awesomest computers.

We're going to look at cultures. I don't know that there is a historical basis in making Transylvania Romanian in 1444 though.

This is tangental, but with regard to cultures, I'd love it if there were an option to colonize without totally replacing the culture of the province.

This is tangental, but with regard to cultures, I'd love it if there were an option to colonize without totally replacing the culture of the province.

That would imply an overhaul to how populations are handled, and as a result having more than one culture and religion in each province.

Regarding the Transylvanian issue, to avoid a cultural border gore, it had been suggested to create a Transylvanian culture in the Hungarian group, to represent the very specific melting polt of Hugarian nobles, "Saxon" burghers and Székelys as the ruling class (while peasants were mostly Romanians). This would make the Hungarian group more interesting, and would be less silly than one Saxon province here, a Romanian there and everything surrounded by Hungarian, imho.
There is even historical basis for this, according to wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unio_Trium_Nationum

I would even argue for Romanian to be added in this larger Hungarian-Transylvanian cultural group. The Danubian principalties had more links to Hungary than the likes of Serbia and Croatia. With Hungarian in the west, Romanian in the east, and Transylvanian in the middle where things are really complicated culture-wise, you'd have a nice cultural group. (I suggest Vlach-Hungarian as a name, but I'm not married to it) :)
