If Venice is in why not an extra, optional province in the British Isles to make it more interesting and give it more flavour. It was an important British port and does render history enough for it to be considered a potential province for the future.
I mean, I love extra provinces and if I'm deciding I won't care for performance, but this seems unreasonable for the vanilla game, that lacks some essentials. And Venice was the capital of a realm, it had a primordial position and was somewhat of a medium player, excluding it in the beginning of the game in terms of importance would be like excluding London.

Eh what? You can't have an optional province. Either it's there for everyone or it's not.
Think people have misread me. I said in regards to the other provinces it's purely "optional" because it's of less importance admittedly than the other 2 provinces I discussed. Thanks.

The Channel Islands and Man would be OK due to the role they played (although the former not very likely), but the isle of Wight is not a province in CK2, Victoria 3 or HoI3 as far as I know. It is too small to fit in EU4 as it is not in any other PDS game even if those have less details. Also, for this time-frame, nothing of importance happened there that would justify it, it is also smaller than other cities that are not in the map with less population (development). Do note that this comment is for the vanilla game.
What?

The Isle of Wight and the Isle of Mann are a similar size. During this time period, nothing happened to the Isle of Man. However, the Isle of Wight was occupied by the French at least once, and would provide a much better province in terms of tactics and strategy. An island near the mainland (Europe) that would be easy to hold and launch attacks on the rest of the British Isles.

The Island is also the reason why Portsmouth and Southampton are so large. It is basically the reason the solent exists (which is a province in CK2) so is pretty important.

If you are going to include an Isle Of Mann province, you should probably include the Isle of Wight too. (Unless you are just using it for the reason for the straight crossing to ireland which is pretty BS as the straits of Dover is more of a strait than there but tbh I can see it being nice just as a QOL improvement instead of being historical, but that would literally be the only reason to include Mann as a province over the Isle of Wight).

Aragon with a lot more provinces. Even Castile gets more provinces. Portugal stays the same... Shame on you Paradox!

Is that bad? From a player POV it´s better to have 1 BT 4 province than 2 BT 2, at least in this version ;)

Diluting the map is often bad. Don´t really understand why the obsession with always putting more provinces. As long as it´s not as stupid as Empire Total War (one province France, yay!)

Would Andorra be too small a province and/or insignificant a nation to add to the game? I mean, it would certainly have the possibility of a unique government type (A dual-monarchy; in it's present-day state, it is co-governed by the President of France and the Bishop or Urgell in Catalonia, so a half-drepublic, half-theocratic state), but I understand why it wouldn't get in. :)

Yes, it is bad. Even for building armies and navies, it will be much quicker if you have more provinces. And usually Pdx gives more BT, TV, and MP, every time they put more provinces in the map.
Add to that the fact that the trade doesn't stop in Seville and is directed to Genoa (in Wiz words to make Spain not sit in their but), it's a major nerf because Portugal becomes less powerful to fight Castille or Aragon, and is even more difficult to take on Italy when you have a buffed Castille and Aragon in the middle of the road.
I guess Wiz wants people to stop complaining that Portugal colonizes all over the world (like they did historically), and one way to do it is nerf it to the point that every CN becomes independent due to Portugal being weaker (already happens in the current version, and will be even more frequent with this nerf), and won't have the resources to build any meaningful navy, turning Portugal in a joke in the hands of the AI (if Wiz worked in improving the AI, would be much better for gameplay, rather than messing up trade nodes and nerf super powers to the point of being a joke).

You know they could fix the portugal issue by other means. Like revamping their national ideas. Or adding some important centres of trade to territories they hold.

Relying on imaginary end nodes for trade as a cruth to make a nation playable is just a bad way to handle it.

Of course the map that I posted needs some interpretation. Andorra is insignificant and Gibraltar needs to exist. Baleares shoud be one province of course. But I think that Portugal provinces are good, and spain too. It could be the modern division but many of that cities existed in the game time frame

Portugal has problems.

But you are approaching it from the wrong angle.

Colonization and Asia won´t never be really fixed until there is distinction between trade posts and provinces. Forcing you ALWAYS to conquer/colonize to have a presence.

Lack of population is also na issue but I can understand it to na extent, as it would mean... having to buy and put slaves in colonies. Maybe the development system will finally making investing in the colonies important to represent the population growth needed to make it profitable.
