The diffence between some of the italian cultures and the german cultures are also smaller than that of those cultures.A cultre should serve a purpose and in this case that purpose would be to give the nordics something else to concentrate on than blobbing.
In what way does (say) splitting the Swedish culture into Swedes and Geats give Sweden something to concentrate on?

No that split. Those would both become instantly accepted. Also that's centuries to late. Some small non accepted cultures that would force them to deal with nationalism and uprisisngs, perhaps get them to spend a few dip points.

What would that change? With the levels of development in Sweden, it would cost them basically nothing to force assimilate those cultures. It would be over within a decade, and I can't really see Sweden historically having to deal with nationalism within its present day borders. I can see people revolt because of taxes, an evil king etc. but nationalism in Sweden?

Just because we don't describe it as such, but if you look at it closely Dalarna and Småland revolts as often as the rest of sweden combines.

Shetland, Orkney, and the Outer Hebrides are already separate provinces. The others are too small to be proper provinces... Mann maybe, but Scilly?

That being said, I wouldn't say no to Britain getting more provinces. It might actually convince me to play in my home country for once instead of halfway round the world.

Re Liechtenstein, I've read the Wikipedia article. How about creating a "Vorarlberg" province between Graubunden and Tirol, and then making it a Vorarlberg OPM until 1780 and then giving it to Liechtenstein?
Isle of Man and Isle of Wight first. Then possibly the channel islands.

The Channel Islands and Man would be OK due to the role they played (although the former not very likely), but the isle of Wight is not a province in CK2, Victoria 3 or HoI3 as far as I know. It is too small to fit in EU4 as it is not in any other PDS game even if those have less details. Also, for this time-frame, nothing of importance happened there that would justify it, it is also smaller than other cities that are not in the map with less population (development). Do note that this comment is for the vanilla game.

Well considering adding more provinces to the balkans basically means feeding the ottoman empire I see why they do it.

The problem with adding new provinces to the Balkans is that every stat, from ownership to terrain to base manpower to (certainly) culture, will set the forum on fire.

Just for the sake of being pedantic, Wight does have its own province in HoI3.

Disagree. Plenty happened there actually and I'm only happy for it to be implemented if it is viable. If Venice is in why not an extra, optional province in the British Isles to make it more interesting and give it more flavour. It was an important British port and does render history enough for it to be considered a potential province for the future. I'd like to note that I'm an extreme pedant, so I'm going on what "should" or "ought" to be a province no matter how difficult it may or may not be. I wouldn't lose any sleep if it wasn't implemented though as I'd be more than happy if the Isle of Man and Channel Islands were added.

To the best of my knowledge, there's no such thing as an optional province in the Clausewitz engine.
