I'm not a big fan of the big-full-fancy-official names in the map, as it usually ends up in an unreadable clutter of small letters in most of the countries (except the bigger ones). It would be nice if the map had the official name of the country, such as the Empire of Brazil, and the United Provinces of Rio de la Plata
In fact, it needs to be dosed so it doesn't look horrible in small countries. But the full names of the countries are pretty cool, it says a lot about them.I'm not a big fan of the big-full-fancy-official names in the map, as it usually ends up in an unreadable clutter of small letters in most of the countries (except the bigger ones).
I dont know exaclty how accurate the first two map really, but i would not trust any map with the 9 dash line on it, because it is clearly CCP propaganda.Looks like Qing doesn't have its historical 1836 borders...Again, becauase Victoria 2 had the same issue.
It seems like they are using much later borders of late Qing/Republic of China when it comes to Central Asia, which are pretty much close to modern border lines in the region:

Rather than using the correct and historical Qing borders until 1860s, when their empire was still (almost) fully intact and they still held their part of Central Asia:

To show a comparison of shrinking Qing borders:

Ironically, even EU4 allows us to recreate historical Qing borders. Why doesn't Victoria?

I hope they'll change this later on. A Qing that manages to modernize as fast as Japan would certainly retake those frontier regions from Russia.
Kind of silly to throw out the well known maximum extent of the recognized historical boundaries of the Qing Empire in its entirity just because they're also shown with the Spratly Islands. OP probably shouldn't have chosen that map, but the borders in the north and west align with the accurate borders regardless.I dont know exaclty how accurate the first two map really, but i would not trust any map with the 9 dash line on it, because it is clearly CCP propaganda.
I do not say its 100% wrong, i say you can't accept it 100% right because its clearly modified by propaganda.Kind of silly to throw out the well known maximum extent of the recognized historical boundaries of the Qing Empire in its entirity just because they're also shown with the Spratly Islands.
That's true, OP shouldn't have used a map that depicted control of the South China Sea. That said, the borders in the North and West align to what we know and the Spratly islands will (fortunately) not be on the map.I do not say its 100% wrong, i say you can't accept it 100% right because its clearly modified by propaganda.
Sokoto? That's basic. Wake me up when they've added the devine theocratic-pacifist-anti slavery-elective-kingdom of Nri.Sokoto is in. Game of the year 10/10.

There is a still a lot of work to be done for Africa. Egypt, for example, is way too big. In 1836 its southern border on the White Nile was at Aba Island, beyond lay the Shilluk kingdom. The Eastern Desert (Kassala and its surroundings) was also still independent. Abyssinia also looks really weird. Historically, it was highly fragmented. There were the Ballou of Arkiko, a factually independent Shewa, the Imamate of Wallo, the Harar Emirate, the Oromo Gibe kingdoms and the Gonga kingdoms (Kaffa, Janjero etc). Still very excited for this game, hope non-westernized nations will have plenty of options to slowly modernize.
I love having overseas names, it really adds to the flavour even if sometimes it didnt work out as well as you'd like in past gamesHey what's the general consensus on overseas map names? Do people usually prefer "Portuguese Africa" or just "Portugal"? I've always liked the former but I noticed that Mozambique is pretty clearly just "Portugal" on here so I was curious if that's something I'm in the minority on.
To be fair on that example, "Turkey In Europe" was a very common appearance in historical maps so it's not like real life did any better.I love having overseas names, it really adds to the flavour even if sometimes it didnt work out as well as you'd like in past games

I REALLY like overseas names, but it's the weird situations like "Ottoman Africa" that I dislike. Perhaps it could work like in EU4 where overseas by one tile don't count.Hey what's the general consensus on overseas map names? Do people usually prefer "Portuguese Africa" or just "Portugal"? I mean if the map could label Rumelia and Anatolia that would be neat but a giant Ottoman Empire label that isnt cut off arbitrarily looks much nicer ingame and therefore on my screenshotsTo be fair on that example, "Turkey In Europe" was a very common appearance in historical maps so it's not like real life did any better.
It's early in development, I wouldn't read much into it.I noticed that Mozambique is pretty clearly just "Portugal" on here
Didn't they figure this one out in later games, by not having overseas names for anything with a connection to your capital?I love having overseas names, it really adds to the flavour even if sometimes it didnt work out as well as you'd like in past games
