The map showing west central Canada
as incognita is incorrect. The Hudson's Bay company moved into the interior of the continent in 1772. Several trading posts were established along the Saskatchewan River in the late 18th century. The NorthWest company (the competition) also got involved, building Rocky Mountain House (near Calgary) in 1799.

The Mackenzie river which flows into the Arctic ocean was explored in 1789.

Clearly, all this area was under commercial exploitationwell before 1820 and should not be incognita.

However, the examples you make are near the limit of the scope of the game, and, more importantly, no changes to the map will be made, so you are out of luck.

Too bad... Perhaps in a year (or a couple ??) When 1 computor can match what 10 networked computers could do some years before... Perhaps then will we be able to change the map...

the problem isn't in CPU capacity, the problem is that changing the map is a lot of work (adding/changing graphics, including the new provinces in all data files, linking them with the existing provinces, changing a gazillion events to also affect the new provinces...) so that no one wants to do it.

Also, we've been given to understand that the map file(s) itself are huge, which would make downloading them next to impossible for those of us (like me) who have only dialup internet access.

The truth is, a large part of the map could be visible. After all, I'm sure some arab traders were in the Sahara. Lewis and Clark explored large parts of North American PTI. The map file is huge, and also, knowing us humans we'd have it all colonized up to colonial cities when they were really only a few scattered traders here and there.

So instead of conquistadors, we should be given land explorers and land territories should take longer to explore the farther you get from either a coast or a city.
