a nitpick and a suggestion.
it is clear from the names that the Deep periphery data being used is pulled (via Sarna i know) from the Deep periphery map in ISP3
http://www.sarna.net/wiki/File:Deep_Periphery_-_lg.png

the systems labelled "Interstellar Expeditions Base" and "Refuel Base" would not exist in 3025, as IE is a post-Jihad organization, and the organizations that existed in prior to that (Star Group and The Mutual Exploration Network) were unlikely to have been able to explore so far or build support infrastructure for such trips. (The Star Group was a bunch of academics, while the M.E.N. had funding but not much organization.. it was the combination of both groups that made IE viable.)

it is possible some of these bases may have originally been built by Comstar's Explorer Corps, but the Explorer Corps were primarily focused Coreward trying to track the route of Kerensky's Exodus, so it is hard to tell.
i would suggest putting such systems in parentheses or the like, with a mapmakers note added to the system's metadata explaining that the Data came from post-3025 sources.

now the suggestion. would it be possible to add (in toggleable form perhaps) the nebulas, rifts, and Clouds from the deep periphery map?

from what I know there's no actual ruling on when IE actually started their cartography operations. Although it was stated that they emerged from the Jihad to replace the Explorer Corps, there have been notable systems that point to IE's cartography and exploration activities operated prior to 3081.
Rest Stop was discovered in 2995
Skyfog was discovered in 3003
Rover was discovered before 3012
Murrain was rediscovered in 3012
New Sierra was discovered in 3012

so, it can be deduced that IE had the capability before the end of the Third Succession War (3025) and it's entirely probable that they made various bases to support their exploration missions, it just so happened that it was after the Jihad that they became prominent because they were the next organization that had the most experience after the Explorer Corps was knocked off their pedestal.

Going by Sarna, IE was founded in 2974. When it says that it emerged from the Jihad to take up the Explorer Corps' mission, that just means that they continued what the Explorer Corps used to do officially, not that it suddenly came into being. The Explorer Corps stopped getting funding and IE took up the mantle at that point.

Hi, long time no see!

Just dropping in to announce that our mapping project on Sarna.net is nearing the finish line. My part of that project has been the creation of the new system neighborhood maps, via a script that reads its data from the fantastic Sarna Unified Cartography Kit.

We are currently evaluating the maps in a first phase of our go-live, displaying maps for the "latest" year in BT history, 3151. You can check out the maps and the fancy new nearby systems tables (scripted by Nic Jansma himself) on any planetary system article on sarna.net, for example:

https://www.sarna.net/wiki/Kentares
https://www.sarna.net/wiki/Tharkad
https://www.sarna.net/wiki/Dieron
https://www.sarna.net/wiki/Tukayyid

EDIT: I need to mention that you should absolutely click on the images to get the large version. They are vector files, so zoom away! :)

Eventually, there will be a gallery of maps displaying different eras on each system page.

Our next step is gathering feedback (on Sarna itself, not here), so please head over there and chime in: https://www.sarna.net/wiki/BattleTechWiki:Operation_Doneve#Feedback

Cheers,
gruese

@gruese, vector files absolutely ROCK!

The maps are crisp and absolutely POP.

I can't even imagine how much work must have gone into Project: Planets. And "nearby systems" is easy to use and a great navigation aid, with rock-solid accuracy... in our two-dimensional BattleTech universe (which I am sure is an entirely different but FUN conversation.

Again, excellent job. You've crafted a true BattleTech Community Resource here.

The new maps really stand out on the sarna pages. Well done.

Hi!

Would just like to say that i really love the interactive map, and that it will be used in some upcoming MW/BT campaign.

One small detail / possible error i noticed, is that "Goshen" is listed as Capellan in the map, while Sarna says that it's Fed-Suns, and has been since 2864

Oh, that's probably because the earliest Goshen appears in maps is in 2367, when it belonged to Sarna Supremacy/Capellan Confederation. But yeah, it's been in FedSuns hands since 2571.

No, its because for some reason, Gohsen is listed as Capellan Confederation for 3025 on sarna until January of this year. Despite the references it listed directing to maps where its in FS hands... and it being home to a FS academy in the old 3025 housebooks...

Man, I love that map and my BT RPG group heavily relies on it, too!
Same with the remapping project.
I'd love to see your awesome page to add maps of other years, too!
We are currently playing a campaign started in 3025 and now are in 3033.. so the landscape changed a lot. Imagine being able to add a year on the page and the map adjusted... ;)

Danke!
