I tend to agree. The thing that made me love paradox games was that their games didn't try to look flashy and instead focused on a clean, easy to read interface.
The EUIII interface appares to be messy and really lost the "paradox feel".

Agree.

I think the map is coming along nicely. As MrT and others have said, the quality will differ along with the zoom levels.

Look at this screenshot:

Although a beta screen, I think Scotland looks really good here. They've started to mess about with the elevation and the scenery, and the city locations will of course be finalised when the game is released.

The do need to finish the sea and lakes and stuff, but I suspect this has been worked on since these screens anyway... :)

That screenshot is ancient... where did you dig it up? Anyway, since then the trees have been massively shrunk and elevations reduced drastically.

I throw my lot in with the few who actually LIKE the new map. Is it ideal? No, the borders are a little blocky, but in the long run I think this will be an improvement. Tell me when Paradox has put out a game that has disappointed us. ;)

HOI2 was pretty playble at release. At least now they don't have a publisher breathing down their necks. As for disappointing games though... How about Diplomacy? haven't seen many people very happy about that one.

I had no trouble playing EUI. I never downloaded any patches for it, if there were any.

I like the latest map screens. The blockiness is gone and now the text and borders are readable and recognizable. The trees and mountains etc. looks great. I agree there could be some improvements, but right now I can't think of any and the map is perfectly okay as it is.

No, but it sure helps the sales.
You know what would help the sales?

"EU III Collectors Edition. Including:

- 100-page 4 color strategy guide;
- The official “Europa Universalis III” soundtrack;
- A 140-page 4 color manual;
- A simple, clean and soft-border 2D interface map;
- etc..."

It would sell like water in the desert :rofl:

As far as the graphics go the map could sure use more improvements, although its still not complete so I'll hold off on making a judgement until the final product comes out. However, I do agree that more provinces are needed, especially for Germany and central Europe. This is because for the entire period Germany and nearby realms were pretty much the center of gravity for the entire region. It was just one huge power vacuum that sucked in everyone in a geopolitical sense, and the result was that Germany always ended up being fought over. Also, smaller countries such as the Netherlands, Portugal, and German minors could definitely use more provinces for greater strategic depth. Otherwise it'll be too easy for them to be overrun by larger nations, with entire states falling after a single siege. I want my wars to last longer than that. That being said, I can't wait for this game to come out. I loved EU2 and I'm really hoping that EU3 will surpass its predecessor.

Personaly I think the new map looks great. I was scared at the BETA shots, but now the map looks stylish. I think the borders and fonts are well designed. I'm just scared my computer won't handle it :(
I agree, my concerns are: my ability to run the game and the AI, but not the map, which is already perfectly fine for me.
