Everything done with this game must be per definition a concious design decision, do you really think paradox designers would work on a game while being unconcious? ;)
But I will repeat: this argument is invalid as the names there as such are not Polish. Frankly I see one name on the screenshot that might be Polish and it is Jacwiez. However, the territory it represents is not a part of Lithuania - not in 1066 at least (I would say it is territory in current Belarus that in 11th century was within borderlands of Poland and Rus which at least motivates a slavic name). Other names as I can see are Latin, German or Russian.

Yes German Memel can be seen. Anyways it would be nice to see a screenshot of the German/Polish region WITHOUT the big shields, so that we can discuss the provincenames.

You can only blame Lithuanian prophets for not telling them about Crusader Kings in 1066 - otherwise they would have converted to Christianity, just to have their local names spelled correctly in 2004 game. :D

You should actually regard these shield as a bless - you can always turn them on if you don't want to depress yourself with these names on the map :D

You know, perhaps it would be better to make sure that the map design is 100% correct, that every single province name is correct (and that an option be added for preference of Christianized names or localized names), that every assigned province culture is exactly correct, and that every single character who ever existed during the CK era is carefully researched and included in the game.

Add another 200 betatesters and CK would probably be almost ready to go gold...



...in another decade or so.

The province names of Switzerland have been nonsense in every game so far but I couldn't care less, as long as CK is ready soon. :)

In HOI and Vicky they looked correct to me (a non-swiss), given that they are all named after cities instead of actual provinces ala EU.

No, I don't think a decent level of map accuracy IS too much to ask - imo the quality of the map sets the baseline for the whole game - everything else can be modded anyway.

You say New Orleans, I say Nouvelle-Orléans.... the city was founded by the French and is now in the US... I guess stuff change. ;)

Paradox has always done a good job on handling the name of provinces. I will place my trust in them and not worry about it.

Personally I don't care all that much. Paradox is still the company with the most detailed map and if I disagree with some of their names they allow me to mod it so...
No matter what they call the provinces the gameplay will still be the same.

after all it's a game not real life, it's not like they park their autocamper outside your home town and start changing the citysigns... ;)
