Inspired by a comment by Sandam in the this thread, I've made a small mod that changes the "mountains" and "impassible mountains" on the map into literally impassible mountains. They are now completely impassible regions outside any province, much like bodies of water, with the exception of a handful of mountain strongholds. The main effect of this is that the map is now much less open and has a lot more choke-points, particularly in the mountainous Chūgoku and Chūbu regions.

Download: View attachment Impassible Mountains.7z

The mod should be compatible with anything except another map mod. Sengoku doesn't appear to use pre-built pathfinding maps like older Clauswitz games do so there's no need to clear the map cache.

Great idea! This will allow a much more strategic game around the mountain passes, and will make bottle-necks far more likely.

Update: There were a few misplaced pixels along the Mashita/Hida and Namekata/Asaki borders. The former were just ugly, but the latter allowed teleportation through the mountains between those two provinces, so I've uploaded a new version with those pixels fixed.

Does this mod still work in the latest patch version? Sounds like exactly what I need for a more enjoyable game.

Any updates on this?

And the necropost of the year award, Sengoku edition, goes to...

It should work with the final patch, doesn't look like there's any potential conflicts.
