I couldn't find much. But you have disjointed lake provinces in there which might cause a problem (#181). That one broken province in the center of the map should be fixed, too but is most likely not the reason for your problems.

Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it. Unfortunately I got rid of all the lakes, fixed the broken province, made sure every province was contiguous (got rid of all the islands and removed a few stray pixels here and there) and it still crashed on calculating paths, same as always.

Before I threw my laptop out the window I thought I'd mess around with some of the other map files on the remote chance that it was something there, so I made all the land in terrain.bmp a single color. Fired it up, sat back expecting another crash... and it loaded all the way to the select screen. :laugh:

Presumably my original 5-minutes-in-paint terrain hack job confused the engine somehow. I'll do some more testing to work out exactly what part of it the engine doesn't like and report back but at this point I'm just glad it works! I guess this is a lesson to always test every single step of the way.

I still can't figure out why launching the basic, stripped down test version of my mod freezes at Initialising Map Logic. The error still seems to be that there are no pixels for the provinces. I'm uploading the mod here to see if it's something glaringly obvious that I have wrong. It would really help if somebody had a minute to check, I'm absolutely lost currently.

I managed to get a map functional but i'm getting some weirdness with the borders, how is that? If you look at Breifne and Connacht they're both missing borders on certain bits.

Height map can be simply generate from topology map. As for topology map, if you are artistically inclined - you can draw it by hand, other option would be to find a topology map and use it as a base. For topology map starting 95,95,95 rgb color is above water level and 94,94,94 and lower is below water level.

While this is true, you should avoid 94 and 95 all you can, in large quantities it produces some weird graphical glitches and it looks really bad. In general, 96+ for land and -93 is the safe way to go for an aesthetically pleasing map.

On the CKII Wiki, it says that portages (in the adjacencies.csv) are required to run. What does this mean?

I'm creating a map from scratch, and I want to get a functional map first before I add fancy stuff like adjacencies, but I don't know if I need to include a new, mostly blank adjacencies.csv or if I can just copy over the vanilla one.


Also, is the continents.txt file required. As it says it doesn't do anything, does it need to be there or can there just not be one?

One last question:
What files are absolutely required to load a map? Which must be specific to my map, and which just have to be there?

For example, colormap.txt just needs to be there, but provinces.bmp needs to be a map of the provinces.
