Make a 17th terrain, paint somewhere with it, see what texture it uses.


Alternatively, paint the stuff you want it to look like and assign the 17+ terrains manually in the province files.

It would just be interesting to see if we could provoke the error without messing with that area at all, as personally the only time I got the mod to run in a "clean" fashion was when I had simply filled out aprutium with another colour and deleted its references. I never really got around to add more provinces than that though.

It ran fine when just completely deleting Aprutium/Abruzzo in an earlier version. Here's the newest one, where I just ended up doing all of Lenapehoking, Nehântick and Haudenosaunee. Added in Suakin near the nile to fill the 997 slot and no problems with 997 either. Could it be something with the Holdings in Abruzzo you see? Deleting all but Avezzano, as the capital, didn't work but I really can't see any other connection.. :wacko:

( Really weird in Wissahickon, but it might be due to the blank Abruzzo -> Suakin -> Abruzzo shifted to Dithmarschen definition to get it to load, of course. )

How do I get rid of lakes?

If someone could be good enough to just tell me the basic files that are edited for basic map building, I would be thankfull for it.

I have made maps for games by Creative Assembly, Rome, and Medieval 2 Total War. The map files seem somewhat similar from what I have explored.

Could it be something with the Holdings in Abruzzo you see? Deleting all but Avezzano, as the capital, didn't work but I really can't see any other connection.. :wacko:

STEP 1) Removed Abruzzo from the Italian peninsula and moved the province to the Americas, the Duchy of Unami and removed all of the holdings (replaced them with just "b_tempville").

STEP 2) Reinserted all of the Holdings, and it loads! Clearly not the Holdings. Then tried adding it back into d_spoleto, and it loads!

STEP 3) Then I try to move it back to Italy, seeing as how everything in the files about the province has loaded fine, and it crashes..

So in conclusion: It's the specific location of pixels on the map.

Actually.. Strike that. Just fixed it. Abruzzo was registering one of it's Positions as outside the limit. Literally everything was irrelevant, nothing was wrong aside from accounting for the rectangular instead of square maps (took tens of thousands of changes to Positions to get Europe back in Europe). Very strange that it still loaded fine with exactly the same positions-entry that was breaking it in Italy when just shifted to the Americas or North Africa etc., though.

Can anyone tell med what files are needed when creating a map from scratch? And which files/dirs from vanilla I have to disable to get it to run.

A new weird error happened whilst doing work in the Great Lakes region. I added k_wendake and all involved and now I'm getting this problem seen below. Has anyone gotten this before or see anything to fix? Initially it happened to k_wendake, not k_sweden, but then I fixed the Province-history of Kottþjóð/Erielhonan (was referring to "c_kotttjod", not "c_kottthjod"). After that k_wendake showed up and stopped "---"ing, but then it appeared in Sweden. A place I didn't change at all.

I am honestly scratching my head at each and every one of these you show me. Don't know if it is the extended map that cause them or maybe you got some underlying small detail annoying you somewhere, and screwing the entire thing up.

Well. I fixed, I think, by putting groups of titles into separate .txt files. At least it does not show up now. I somehow doubt it to be fixed entirely though. Here is the file Nuril.

Any idea which title/titles are causing the displacement of flags? I haven't caught it yet and having them all in different files just makes it more confusing to find. Now there's stuff like the k_sweden flag on a Wendake province.

from my earlier tests, splitting into different files the landed_titles always leads to flag mixing.
it seems the games reads the landed titles files in a way when generating the flag files and next affecting them in a different way when the game is totally loaded.
well, maybe I'm mistaking here as it was some time ago.

Yeah. I have no idea, but it is quite simple to find I think. It should be either of these:

1) Duplicate title name
2) Missing or wrongly named flag.tga file.
3) Something weird.

I usually try to look for duplicates first and then I go and look at the flag file (where you can see in which order they are loaded), then I go from kingdom to kingdom and check if they load correctly - when I do get to the first kingdom that do not I go back and check the graphics files of those tags that loaded before that one. At one point you are bound to find the culprit. This is a very tedious procedure, even if it works. Don't know if people have a smarter way?

That sounds odd. In my personal mod I have my Jomsvikings split from the landed_titles and it works just fine.
