Empires with similar colors are hard to differenciate. No wonder there are a lot of color changing mods out. Yet I feel that the EU4 system of a border.

Yes, we need them, and these are the most important in my eyes:
- Diplomatic: Show alliances, rivalries, vassals, war allies and enemies of the selected empire.
- Relations: Show in a red to green spectrum how much one empire likes the other.
- Sectors: Turn the sector view on and off.
- System Net Value: Show what systems, including their planets, current ressources net value to the empire is, so to help decide which systems to keep and which to put in a sector.
- Seperatists: Show on the map the seperatist groups and their strength based on systems.
