Brief History: Japanese history is largely shared until the Sengoku era with the OTL Japan. During the Sengoku era the Imperial family was toppled from even their quite figurative position and after a Northern Daimyo named Yoshinobu Hiroshi gathered enough power to make a march to claim the Shogunate, the Sengoku era ended. Yoshinobu was met on the fields in front of Kyoto by a coalition of Southern daimyo. The battle of Kyoto as it was to be known in later years was a disgraceful defeat for the Southern Coalition, who were betrayed when the Daimyo and his forces from the area currently known as Hiroshima defected and caused much damage in the enemies rear. The man named Yoshinobu marched into Kyoto and claimed the title of Shogun, this title now lacking the Imperial backing had lost all meaning so a new system was devised and Yoshinobu claimed the title of Emperor, forging some documents and bloodline to prove that he infact was an imperial decendant. The Sengoku Era ended in the year 1600 AD
This charade went on for some 200 years, when a tyrant bearing the name of Juuichiro was dethroned and and the Republic of Japan was declared alongside large scale modernisation projects. The Finnish Kingdom, alongside other nations in Europe, offered help to the Japanese in modernisation and in result gained an ally in the Pacific. The Finnish-Japanese Treaty of Mutual Cooperation was formed in the year 1820 AD and with that Japan had secured Finland as a useful ally for years to come. The Finns helped rebuild a republican Japan after their own federation was formed and this has highly influenced Japanese policy towards the egalitarian path.
Japan alongside many was rocked by the Socialist Revolution in the Islamic Union, though it didn't share a landborder with the Islamic giant, it did feel a threat to its citizens living in the Finnic State and its trade routes to its Western Ally. This saw a reorganisation of the Japanese military to focus more on keeping its enemies as far away from the Home Islands as possible and thus saw a ramping up of the amount spent on the Navy and Air Force. Military tradition is valued in this nation, but unlike their Finnic allies, Japan has no mandatory military service. Rather opting to fight with superior firepower, than a Hedgehog type Defence Force.
