Hi guys, hi CO, and mappers.
I've recently discovered a genius software named World Machine.
Here's what I'm looking for. Since the game already is using the Unity game engine, maybe it could be possible to import height maps in the map editor? And further - this is a big one - perhaps even importing splat maps?
With World Machine (and probably similar tools) you can create design, generate or adjust existing height maps based on real world locations. So in other words, I could convert a DEM of a real world city and make a height map of it to import in the map editor.
A splat map can also be generated from World Machine. The splat map tells the game engine where to put different textures, based on the opacity of the color. So for instance;
Blue = sand
Red = rock
Green = grass
Yellow = mud
And so on..
The colors in a splat map is determined by different factors in World Machine, such as height and slope angle. The different colors in a splat map can blend together, making the textures mix together nice and naturally.
Devs: Any chance you could investigate this? If there's ever gonna be a DLC well worth a buck, this would certainly be it!
