• Crusader Kings III Available Now!

The realm rejoices as Paradox Interactive announces the launch of Crusader Kings III, the latest entry in the publisher’s grand strategy role-playing game franchise. Advisors may now jockey for positions of influence and adversaries should save their schemes for another day, because on this day Crusader Kings III can be purchased on Steam, the Paradox Store, and other major online retailers.

It is very likely that it does not need any further discussion and thus bumping it serves no purpose. If you feel it is necessary to make a new reply, you can still do so though.

I've taken a look at the files and I've noticed that the map files use a .tbl format. I've been digging through various forums on the subject and found plenty of old editors, but they've been long lost, or that's what it at least seems to be the case.
So my question is simple: Is there any way to edit .tbl files, and how exactly are they supposed to be treated? I found an editor but it doesn't boot them up and it looks more like a column editor like Excel.

Hmmh, I can't get them to boot excluding the 'mcolor.exe'. Is there any clue on how to get 'em to work?

You could try to contact the guys who posted in the modding forum about maps (e.g. Eraclio, Inferis).
Or read up how Magellan worked with EU2
https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?forums/flags-shields-and-other-graphics-like-maps.97/
e.g. here
https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?threads/to-all-aspiring-mapmakers.185890/page-2
If the forum appears empty, remember to chose "Thread Display Options" "Threads with last post from: Forever", "Set Options" *even if that is already what you have selected* and the old threads should be shown again.

* the magellan tools, other than mcolor, have to be started from command prompt (doubleclicking the icons won't work).
Ah, that explains that. Al righty then...

EDIT: It seems to be so that FTG is not compatible with the program, sadly. There seems to be a file (provinces.csv) missing, which is probably not the case in EU2.
EDIT2: Hmmh, there seems to be some custom maps made in the past, I'm most likely just doing something wrong here...
EDIT3: What's this thing called "Fantasia Universalis"? Oh and the provinces are formatted differently in a separate folder but I might be able to trick the program, though now it's screaming for a "colorscales.csv" or something like that.

"Province.csv" was a file that belonged to the game Europa Universalis 2 in the \DB folder of that game, and not part of Magellan.
FtG that is practically a better version of EU2, has changed a lot of .csv files to .txt files so that modders are able to edit them more easily and in FtG the game
has "provinces.txt" in this folder:
\For the Glory\Db\Map\

Therion mentioned in this post
http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum...stion-about-drawing-map.515422/#post-12064541
in that thread
https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?threads/question-about-drawing-map.515422/
that the "Sulawsi 2.2.1" release of Magellan did not work with FtG because of the error with "missing" province.csv and Eraclio tried to explain how it would work.

And while I mentioned the old threads in the EU2 forum as informative, please remember their age and the age of the posts. Inferis updated Magellan several times over the years and the post you are mentioning regarding mcolor and command prompts
http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum...aspiring-mapmakers.185890/page-2#post-4730942
was from 2005. Which would be a time when Inferis’s maptools were at the stage listed under "older versions"
http://inferis.org/eu2/magellan/
on his site.

If you want to know which version of Mageallan is likely written about in an old post on the forum, you have to look at the changelog Inferis has on his site for every version of Magellan,
http://inferis.org/eu2/magellan/
e.g.
"Celebes (v2.2.0)
-----------------
Release Date: 5-sep-2006...
1.0.2
-----
Release Date: 22-may-2006"

I've managed to make an .EU2MAP file and a .psd file, should be easy, I only need Photoshop to work on the latter anymore.

Yeah, Magellan looks for provinces.csv (and also colorscales.csv in the map folder IIRC). You have to use ones from EU2 (or use dummy files - it probably works except for terrains/seas not being rendered correctly in mview).

Could it be possible to have an empty .eu2map and then modify it, when you're incapable of exporting the map files of FTG to a map.?

While I have no idea how, it IS possible to change the map of FtG. There are half a dozen mods
https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?threads/list-of-mods-and-scenarios.444736/
that use anything from slightly modified to completely different maps that work in FtG.

With which version of Mageallan are you currently trying to work? Sulawesi or Marianas?

Yes, you can create an empty .eu2map by including "/c" when extracting.

You must use a folder in which there is a sub-folders called Map. In "Map" folder there must be tbl files.

So, for example, you must copy tbl files in C:\FtG\Map and then use C:\FtG folder to extract an empty .eu2map file with " cd C:\FtG ".

Map files are the same in FtG and in EU2.
