Map creation

I did check the FAQ and stickies for a link to a map creation tutorial, but couldn't find one(or I've misread). Is there one out there? I'd like to fiddle a bit with such things in my spare time while waiting for the next DLC to come out.

Also I've been looking while having some downtime at work so I haven't had that much time to do a thorough look on the forum here. Anyhow thanks for any help in advance.

Many told me to use the map mod testing thread too, but it is just that, a testing thread. You can't learn to play the game by looking at the quick questions thread.

On the EUIII wiki, there is a good article that applies to CKII as well. http://www.paradoxian.org/eu3wiki/Modding_the_map

EDIT: Editing the map doesn't seem impossible, but making a new map is terribly difficult. Good luck.

I've never worked with either things before. I'm a complete beginner at this stuff.

I actually need help with indexing. how exactly do I create alpha channels for dds files. I'm using photoshop elements 2 with the .dds plugin. I have no idea how to make parts of the graphics invisible.
