Does this game include the Caribbean? I could manage to find a map to show what areas EIC covers.

Can anyone clarify?

Thanks!
G

I'd guess it doesn't. After all it's called The East India Company.

So? The British East India Company is the main antagonist in Pirates of Caribbean(this word is even worse to spell correctly than Mediterranean, always got to check which letters double and which do not) 2 and 3. This is more than enough historic background to make this a valid concern.

ARG!

This is definatly disappointing, as the EIC did indeed have operations in the Carribean and the Carribean is my favorite locale for these sort of trading games. Hopefully there will be a expansion pack or DLC that adds it in, I was really hoping for the Carribean in the game.

I believe in some of the very early blogs it was stated that the game would NOT involve slavery. I am of the understanding that primary trade items of the West Indies were slaves imported from Africa to work the sugar plantations. The only other import items from the new world were lumber and tobacco.

The other problem with the West Indies and Americas would be that halfway through the main campaign you would have a new nation being born. If you really want to get particular the game does not cover the Napoleonic wars, the opium trade with China or the Barbary Priates. There is no trade between the nations of the North Atlantic and Mediterranean. Seems like all of that history would be a might bit more than the developers wanted to tackle. So it seems they paired that lot down to a fun more palatable size.

Just my two cents.
Loved the game.
Greg.

You can't seriously take those movies as gospel? :)

The reasoning why EIC sticks to Africa and India is probably that this is the area the British EIC actually exercised direct rule for a long period. IIRC it lasted until the Indian Sepoy rebellion in the mid/late 19th century.

As for the Americas. I won't say the company wasn't involved in any kind of trade there, but it wasn't the same kind of trade. There were European colonies there as opposed to those heathen locals who clearly needed their guidance when it came to trading. Hence the EIC never set up individual territories there, besides they lacked the trade monopoly there.

Pretty decent coverage of it here, although it seems to apply only to the British East India Company

Those films are produced by Disney. Are you calling Mickey Mouse a liar?

Nonono, I wouldn't dream of doing that. I might wake up with Jack Sparrow trying to anchor outside my window if I did that....and we all know we don't want him nearby :)

No, the map has nothing of the West Indies. Only the East Indies up to Burma/Atjeh.
