Hello!

I don't expect a dev response as I expect you are all very busy, and this is a niche question, but I was wondering. Does the Isle of Man have it's own unique Manx culture in the game? It's always pretty neat when Paradox do include my small island home in their game in a way that makes it more distinct from the UK (EU4, CK and Imperator do this to my pleasure).

This does lead onto another question which I very much expect can't be answered currently, as there have been no dev diaries regarding the map. Is the Isle of Man and Channel Islands included as a fully integrated part of the UK, or somewhat separate?

Thanks :)

I'd say there probably will be a Manx culture as long as there is enough cultural difference between Manx and English cultures. it almost certainly will be a part of the UK, I believe there simply isn't enough historical evidence for anything other than the island being a fully integrated part of the UK at game start that is. However so far it seems the Devs have put great detail and care into the map from what i have seen so if there is any historical precedent for a somewhat separate Manx or even Channel islands the Devs will include it.

The Island has never been a part of the UK, but a possession of the crown, with a parliament dating back to the 900's AD (disputed longest continuous parliament) so I'd say there is enough historical evidence for it to have it's own status.

Just a pipe dream for me to be honest

I wonder what the benefit is of having such a small island without strategic importance having its own culture only present in small area.
Not even EU4 or CK3 bothered to include them.

This is Vanilla Eu4 and CK3, where is the Manx culture? Are you playing mods? @Paghalay

There was a separate Celtic Manx language which died out in the 1970s (but has been revived recently). I think that's what OP meant

EU 4 gave a releasable Isle of Man with its own Manx Idea set. No unique culture though it had highlander if I remember right.

From Wikipedia, it sounds like English had become the primary language in schools by the end of the 18th century and only a third of the population could speak the language by 1874, so while it would be nice for flavour, it wouldn't persist enough to make a significant impact on the game.
Vic 2 was missing cultures such as Welsh and Breton and we have had no indication more depth of cultures will be added yet, and if the devs were to add Manx, the British Isles would probably also need Scottish Gaelic, Anglo-Irish, and Ulster Scots cultures as well. It's possible some POPs on the Isle of Man could start with Scottish Gaelic culture to represent the Manx language, if that culture is added to the game (for potential events around the Highland clearances?). If I were to do the cultures in the British Isles, I would just add Welsh and Scottish (also present in Northern Ireland). I would like the devs to add all these minor cultures such as Manx, Faeroese, Frisian, etc, but I don't think it's likely.

There are a multitude of difference nations in the British Isles. You have the Anglo-Saxon based ones, of English, Scots and Ulster Scots. The Irish based nations of Irish, Manx and Scottish Gaelic. The Briton based, Welsh and Cornish, and the Norse based one in the northern isle that is becoming extinct at the start of the game.

And then to have all these as separate cultures in the game presents many problems. Firstly there are too many, and combined with separate tags for these? Yikes. And then what of the "British" culture when these people, from all there backgrounds, went abroad and became the elites of conquered countries. And then what in Ireland, the Ulster Scots aren't the same and the English landowners and elite ascendancy there. Should there then be a separate Anglo-Irish culture. Because surely Ireland shouldn't have English as accepted culture, but it did accept these people into it's nation on independence.
