I am playing as England (1.07) and I built a Fine Arts Academy in Anglia (which should give me +12 to stability right?). So the War of the Roses hits and I go look at my economy sliders and when I hover over Stability it says +5 from Fine Arts Academy. I think my stability was at -1 at the time...

Anyone know whats up with that? Shouldn't it be +12?

no, you get +5 to stability investment (also, it costs 1% less to raise stability IIRC)

the +12 is to province income in the province it is built (Ie. Anglia)

No. It's 5 every month directly to your stability plus 12 a year to your budget (which you can divide between stability, research and cash). What you see when you hover over your stability is just the first bonus - the other you can see in you income breakdown in the red ledger.

Edit: beaten :)

I think everyone touched on a piece of it, but nobody got it 100% right. A fine arts academy in any province will add 5/month to your stability investments. In other words, if you allocate 20 ducats/month to stability, with an academy you'll be getting 25 (not counting monarch and religion bonuses, of course). With 2 academies it's 30, etc.

A fine arts academy in your CAPITAL province will add a 12 ducat bonus to your year-end income (the large lump sum of cash you get every january 1st). This sum is cash at the end of the year; it is not anything to be divided between stability or research. A fine arts in any province other than the capital will add 6 ducats every year instead of 12.

The third effect of fine arts academies is to increase tax/production incomes of a province it has been built in. When you click on a province, you get 2 numbers, remember? The right one is the value generated by the province in its center of trade; the left one is the tax/production income of the province, which a manufactory will increase substantially. This is what directly increases your country's monthly income, the stuff you can allocate between cash/stability/research with the sliders.

That is not true. The big lump sum that you get in cash at the end of each year are your census taxes. Income from manufactories is not included there. What happens instead is that it is allocated to your general income - one that you receive every month and that you allocate between cash, research and stability. You will get 1d each month for a FAA built in capital and 0.5d each month for any other FAA. Plus a 5d monthly bonus that is fixed to your stability.

This one is actually exactly the same bonus that you described in the second paragraph, except it is listed twice - once when you inspect the province, the other time in the red ledger under income breakdown. When you view the number of the left in the province info that you're talking about, you will now see the position "manufactories". And yes, that's what you get every month and can allocate between research. But it is still exactly the same 12d that you think you get at the end of the year. Well, you don't. You will not get any extra bonus as of the end of the year.

And actually there are more bonuses to having Fine Art Academies. It will also add 2% to the population growth of a given province, decrease risk revolt by 1%, and your stability is 1 percentage point cheaper.
