I had thought that 1.03 had reduced/eliminated the manufactory event(s), but playing as the Dakota(!)
I got 2 early, thought it was just strange luck, but the third in 1451 and the fourth in 1453 really made me wonder. (The next two came over the next hundred years.)

The strange thing is that the other american nations got *zero* manufactories, so I am left to wonder: am I just having one of those unbelievable runs of luck or????

Now I did go fully innovative, but was not there (yet) by the 1450s - so is that what was happening?

(I also got a relatively large number of Extraordinary Years - shame that I never get those when playing a nation with actual inflation :) )

Anyone else have stories of incredible luck on events (or the reverse)?

I absolutely hate the free manufactory events. There are two for free manufactories, a devastating fire event, and another free one for Japan.

I posted a bit on this in the scenarios forum (random event tweaks), but I just delete out those manufactory events altogether (it still runs fine). I change a few of the others as well, but that's the one that really bugs me.

I'm in total agreement with you. The problem as I see it is, if you leave the event in, it's akin to randomly picking the winner. Not that that's so bad, because there needs to be randomness in a game like this for it to be enjoyable. But something about it just seems too blatant. If I had control over this game, I'd definitely take it out.

Well, I don't mind the random manufactory events all that much, though I do think they are too common. After all, the AI should be getting a chance at them as well, so its not inherently unbalancing. What does bother me is that it is ALWAYS a weapons manufactory. I never actually buy weapons manufactories because I get them (and only them) for free. It would be a lot more interesting (and less unbalancing) if, instead of six weapons manufactories, you had 1 or 2 of each.

Btw, isn't the fire event already commented out?

I thought they were not going to happen in 1.03 but I got three of them in about 150 years. Two of them were weapons and one was a distillery/refinery. But I have not seen any devastating fires so far.

I don't really mind the free manufactories except when they 1) pop up in a province in which I'm building one or 2) pop up in a non-optimal location, e.g., a weapons manunfactory in a wine province. Offends my sense of economy and best use it does.

I put down the free manufacturies has balancing the good with the bad.

If the game can cause a -2 stability drop (-2 because a noble allied with a country that I have vassalized, has +200 relations with me and is in my alliance), which, if I have enough cultures this will cost me between 1000 to 2000 per stability point to get back to +3, then the game can at least give me something free.

I kind of agree with getting rid of these events. At the very least, reduce their frequency or put some sort of cap on them so they cant occur but once every so many years if you already had one.

In my current 1492 campaign as England, I received 4(!) Weapons Manufacturies, 1 Brewery, and 1 Naval Weapons thingy before 1555. That is just too much power to be given for free. My Land Tech is the highest in the game with almost no investment on my own. This leads to my Trade and Infra techs cranking up as I no longer have to invest in the military techs to stay at the 'historical' progression. Finally, I can field semi-ridiculous armies due to the +20000 support given from the 4 Weapons plants.

All in all, I'm pretty much assured victory in the game through no action of my own. It feels like a kind of hollow victory. Sure, I can go in and edit them out etc, but this is the kind of balance decision that I think the designers should look at.

Just my $.02

Similiar things happened in my Dakota game (but was able to keep my tech 5-15 behind Europe without income investment) I eventually got a 7th!!! weapons manufactory but rebels burnt one down. It was strange to have a manpower of 6-9 with a supportable limit of 49k+. The wierdest part was that I got 7 manufactories and NONE of the other American tribes got any. Just wierd.

Did you by any chance go innovative?

(the other problem with this game: AI should really build level one forts in colonies so that 1000 NA natives on stolen horses cannot get a 45-55% victory score on England. This is especially important before the natives get to land tech 5 and can assault)
