Sokoto has a huge army!!!

And too bad that Sigismondo died, he was a good general

He will be sorely missed :(

Where does france get all the money to raise such armies?

They just mint like mad and run their nation to the ground. Not that it matters Ill be coming back for more whenever possible.

For all we know, the french slipped some poison into Sigismondo's drink :(

Those bastards!

Because my last update was rather carp I'll put out another proper one today.

So there, off to a good start. I took my eyes of the ducats for a second and I got myself another loan. Awesome. At a net cost of more than 40 ducats a year I am not pleased.

Didn't something similar happen earlier?

eu3_1177.jpg

As you can see, I thoroughly split up my army and left just one group of 15k intact. This one group is roaming around in France mopping up what ever France keeps conjuring from the outer plains.

I might need to reassemble another 15k because rebels are again starting to become an issue. With a disjoint empire as I have now, rebels can be a royal pain.

eu3_1178.jpg

It's always mightily attractive to just ignore those silly mercenary armies, but many small issues make for one big one, so it's always better to nip them in the bud. Taking that one extra step often makes the difference.

eu3_1181.jpg

Especially when dealing with lucky nations, since they will always have at least one half decent general (their king).

eu3_1182.jpg

I guess I won.

eu3_1184.jpg

Note the attrition. A nice 4% on an army of 15k. Stuff like this is very easy to forget. Until you find yourself with 18WE and 5 rebel uprisings a month. Always keep track of every army out in enemy or colonial territory.

eu3_1187.jpg

More mopping up, though France is almost down for the count. It won't be long now.

eu3_1189.jpg

A grand total of 1(!) thousand soldiers. I guess the 15k roaming stack can return home for some rebel duty. Nice timing, this means I can leave most of my army in France sieging.

eu3_1190.jpg

I get the feeling France just threw in the towel.

eu3_1192.jpg

An income overview with Mantua at the top. Even now the difference with the number 2 is already substantial.

eu3_1194.jpg

Too bad rebels are also becoming "substantial". I'm not even showing all of them :(

eu3_1200.jpg

The *good* news is that because of the DoW by England all those years ago, I have been unable to pass the BB barrier. A whopping 8 BB to spend before crossing the treshold.

eu3_1202.jpg

No idea why they wont accept, it's just a meager 16% above war score. But whatever it's just a matter of time before their remaining provinces become mine. The fact that I'm not bordering any mighty empires means I can just wait it out without fear of anyone invading. The trouncing of Poland really helps in this regard.

eu3_1204.jpg

Decent advisors are so rare I even screenshot level 2 diplomats. The advisor/cultural assimilation/population effects side of things can still be vastly improved.

eu3_1206.jpg

And they cave in! Good. I was contemplating about whether or not to cut off parts of France to have them rebel, but the fact that I would then have to DoW each of those individual nations since I am aiming for a WC made me decide against it. Would I have been aiming to just destroy France, I would try to cut of their German holdings and make them release for instance Burgundy. In a WC setting it's best to just conquer as much as possible.

And to top it off a world map.

Too bad Poland has such as similar colour.

I'm a big fan of breaking big things into many small things - cut the nation into disconnected pieces, then surround the capital and get them to move it. Forcing France out of Paris is always gratifying.

Is Britain the only country that have started colonizing? That's not good...

And I agree with you. Dividing blobs is only good when you are afraid of them. You have no reason to be afraid of France anymore. :)

Nice peace deal with France, that's a great block of decent territory for a BB war platform, lots of enemies

I just finished reading this AAR and all I can say is wow. I have always had trouble with large nations and your wars versus France have been amazing. I might print this out and use it as a guide for all my games lol.

Hi,

Great work on this AAR, thank you for sharing!

Who do we talk to to add this to the AAR Library under Mantua?

Also, seems like darn photobucket has reached it's limit ;(

Is that a monthly thing?

Cheers!

Die blue blob.

I see Hainaut still has a nice little corner of Europe :).

A nice and fluffy corner if I might add :)

Nicely done, you seem to be able to handle any foe within reason. Just deploy your cav stack to wipe out enemies and you are good to go. :D

Within or without it's all the same to me ;)

It's fun, but not stab hit effective. Not without US/Papal controller (which doesnt work that well in this aspect) at least.

When do you plan to start the bb wars?
Africa would be ready for you to pick any moment.

Sorry! I got DoWed by England-Poland-Austria when dealing with France and preparing for BB wars, if you remember :(

I love annexing minors, I hope they all DoW me.

Colonising will be a bit of a problem. We will have to wait and see how this pans out, it might be an option to leave Castille and England to their own devices and head for the east first.

Wasn't we promised 1500 ?? Thats soon--

I got DoWed! Not my fault! *Unddu goes and sulks in a corner of his room.*

Actually we were promised 1483 (see page 5)!

I guess being popular has it's drawbacks ;) To be frank I'm thinking about switching to another site because this getting a bit absurd. I can't even update now. Imageshack or something.

edit; Just noticed I already have a imageshack account. Neat and good thing I never delete my cookies!

yeah, i hope you can continue your great work, I love your AAR and recommend it everytime to people who want to learn something about this game. you are playing a great game and your pictures are superb, i love the way you edit them.
Of course i wouldnt use only cav armys and build at least a very small fleet for defending the home shores, and kick out some island provinces. but you arent playing a normal game, your goal is the world, that needs some straight decissions. So keep fighting! Keep writing! We will be here everytime you update! For Mantua!! :D
cheers

There we have the first Imageshack hosted screenshot!

A nice example of always needing to check ones BB before accepting a peace. If you are close to the BB limit it might be better to accept higher value provinces that are strategically worse than what you really want, but at least will prevent you from getting to much BB in a peace deal!

eu31208.jpg

Another thing worth mentioning. If you just had a victorious war and accept peace, all your troops will be suffering from the maximum possible amount of attrition! Imagine fighting your way from the Volga to Vladivostok, getting the Ukrain in a peace deal and then having to walk back under 10% attrition for around a year or 4!

Small armies are your friend in this scenario, as is retreating to the provinces you plan on taking.

eu31209.jpg

A little bit of peace would be nice. To get to pirate busting and rebels removing. And some We burning as well.

eu31213.jpg

And another show case of the improved ai (when compared to basic Eu3). They really know how to attack someone while he/she is down!

England takes this opportunity to settle a few scores.

eu31214.jpg

Pirates AND take a look at the Balkans. What a mess! What is castille doing for crying out loud..

eu31216.jpg

eu31219.jpg

Stats stats and more stats. Im comfortably first when it comes down to income. France is comfortably last when it comes down to troops.

eu31220.jpg

A closer look at the Balkan tells us alot more. That's a lot of rebels right there! Only interesting to me though, since it tells me that castille is not colonising at all...

eu31221.jpg

I can hardly go and deny it now can I :)

eu31222.jpg

Especially since it wont take be over the BB limit anyways.

eu31223.jpg

That's a bad king. A really bad king.

eu31224.jpg

Here we can see exactly how bad. Really really bad.

+4 on the limit. Again a reason to be carefull with BB limits, especially with kings as opposed to elected rulers. Imagine having a 6 diplo king and you're brushing against the BB limit, he only has to die and leave a 5 diplo heir and you have a problem!

At least republics give you a better shot at high diplo rulers.

I didnt mark it, but check the BB limit, Im now .76 BB over the limit!

eu31225.jpg

A sign of things to come?
