There is a decision, oddly enough called Manifest destiny, that give the USA lots of lovely cores on Mexican terroitry. All the USA needs to do is cash them in.

This is just smart play on part of the US. Don't make gigantic claims that might be disappointed...
You and King have done a great job of laying out the cost-benefit analysis; would you all say whether the US has to go back to the well more often than it wins the whole Cession in a (Veracruz-aimed) swoop?
