In EU2, you could not regenerate troops. So this never came up. But I figure that with the new regeneration effects, rotating your armies out of danger is essential to maintaining your war effort.

I have been breaking my forces into field armies of three cavalry, five infantry, and two cannon. At the beginning of the war when the enemy armies are still large, I need this level of concentration to fight the enemy. But after the enemy breaks into a retreat, I need to subdivide to avoid attrition and regenerate.

When you are dealing with a small enemy (one-three provinces), this isnt a big deal. But if I am dealing with a deep front that I cannot penetrate (think France), then I break off one infantry and one cannon into a siege force. Then I repeat that. Then I pull my remaining 3 cavalry and 3 infantry back into my territory to heal while I siege.

In an overrun situation, I break off the two regiment siege forces as I penetrate their territory. So if I have three field armies invading Spain, I can break off 6 siege forces and still maintain 3 mobile armies of 3 infantry and 3 cavalry.

As those armies get damaged, I rotate them back into captured territories for reserves and to heal up.

Anyone else have thoughts on this?
