Mammalian Platypus - How do we get the avatar now?

Hello all,

Just been made aware via the wiki that the Great Platypus race was(is) only available with the project augustus minigame which is now closed.

How can we obtain it now?

ALso wondering this, I got nova edition so I would have all the race portraits and now I find that I missed one.

I'm unsure if I even want to play the game anymore even if I could due to all the crap... It's stuttering so bad on my 4790K, 980 GTX, 16GB, Raid 0 SSDs that it's pretty much unplayable.

Yep. I tried the game. It seemed all right, but what really marred my joy was the constant nagging thought which said: "I want to play as the platypus". Now I can't enjoy the game at all.

Give it a few months and it'll probably be released alongside the Arthropoid and Creatures of the Void - probably as a 'pre-order bonuses latecomer' pack or something. I wouldn't expect Paradox to withhold it forever, but it'll probably be exclusive for a little while just to make it more of a reward for those who were prepared to pre-order.


EDIT: Ooops - actually the Arthropoid probably won't been included as it's still available as part of the Nova pack - for some reason I'd assumed it was a pre-order specific thing.

Platypus has nothing to with pre-order. You got it from some on-line minigame which we missed. People here are unhappy, because they thought that by pre-ordering and paying extra you would get all the DLCs, which wasn't the case.

Yeah - I realised that - I just meant it would probably be bundled alongside them as it would be kind of weird to release single portraits as DLC (though I made a mistake with the Arthropoid - that's still available as part of the Nova pack so it'll probably stay that way). I'd personally rather they weren't exclusive - ideally everyone should have access to all the content. Also I had actually thought the portrait would be unlocked for all forum users - not just those who participated in the minigame. The problem is that there will probably be some people who will argue that releasing it as a DLC for everyone would somehow 'devalue' it (kind of a selfish view to have imo, but that's people for you).

I would also point out though that pre-ordering got you exactly what was listed on the Steam page - at no point does it say all content (or more specifically the Platypus) would be included. You haven't been lied to. I do agree it kind of sucks and I hope you'll get an opportunity to get hold of it soon. I had the same problem with the Evangelical Majors pack for EUIV - I missed the event and now I can't get it. I do think it's likely it'll be released for everyone eventually though.

I recommend demanding a refund and if not get a chargeback, can get the game way cheaper later.

Paradox sent me an email with the Project Augustus codes and I now have the platypus race available. Check the keys section of your paradox account.

I'd be real careful with the chargeback option. Sure, they can be used legitimately -- but whatever vendor you used is likely to blacklist you and/or your account, and you may lose access to a LOT more than 1 game.

Especially if you bought through Steam.

I am kind of mad about this actually. I followed the progress of Stellaris on Twitch, Youtube, Steam, and here and never heard about this until just now. Seems like a secret reward only for special people which is not cool. I had seen the platypus race but I thought it was going to be included in the game. I actually looked for it when I launched the game and was puzzled when I could not find it.

I am throwing my lot in with most of the voices here. I realize it seems petty to be upset by this. But when it comes to a game like Stellaris i didn't expect to have to watch the forums like a hawk just to get something for it(never got the e-mail about it either). Truth is, I am a insane collector, and yes, that is on me, i am hopeful that it comes out down the road but it definitely diminished my want to play the game at least for now.

The platypus just happens to be my favorite animal which is part of the reason why it bothers me so much.

Please, give us another opportunity to get this race. I bought the game intending to play that race.
