Oh....sorry to break it to you, but the mamluk idea set is great.

Excuse me, but what bizarro world do you live in? It has only one truly "good" bonus - that being discipline. The rest is ranges from okay (manpower recovery) to not being an idea at all (trade range, trade power). Like, literally take a step to the east and look at QQs ideas - a country that historically did way worse than the Mamluks, mind you.

Trade power is fine. Trade efficiency and production efficiency are vastly underrated. Trade steering is discipline level good

Hello, can we give to mamluks a special cav unit strong early game named the Furûsiyya ?

They were the elite army of the Mamluks at this time period and could be a great compensation for Mamluks to turn the tide early on. They declined around 1500.

The Furûsiyya was a strong army of slaves bought by noblemen who trained them to be the elite army of the Mamluk. The Furûsiyya took power over time and Mamluks declined when Ottoman Empire locked down the trade slave from the black sea. They were the "crusader/chivalry" of the Islam at this time period and were well respected. They owned Ottoman early one but they refused to use powder, canon and they were focused on the cavalry which caused with some treachery the end of the Mamluks.

It's summarized, i played Mamluks recently, it's a strong country and i'm not agree with people saying production efficiency and provencial trade power are garbage. Alexandria node trade value must be retained to help the economy and many of the ideas listed has "garbage" serve this purpose. the trade range is a great way to rush into Asia with boats and merchants and so ... trade money money money !

Also, the prestige bonus is always great because when you form Egypt you lose the Mamluk gov so you can disenherit :p

Trade power is fine.

Trade steering is discipline level good

Both of these are made completely obsolete by just conquering. They only have any effect in contested trade nodes, and by the midgame you should have consolidated at least your core nodes.

Trade efficiency and production efficiency are vastly underrated.

They both represent a 3-5% increase in income each. However, the Mamluks are one of the most prosperous countries in the world and literally have a third print money button.

the trade range is a great way to rush into Asia with boats and merchants and so

You know how you can also push into Asia? Charter companies.

But you know what, I think you are right that me just complaining is not sufficient, so here's a quick and dirty update to Mamluk ideas, better than the current ones but maintaining their identity as a trade-focused nation:

Traditions

+0.50 Cavalry Shock
+25% Trade Steering

Increased cavalry shock is admittedly an extremely spicy bonus. At gamestart, the Mamluks would literally have the strongest cav in the world (equal to +50% CCA), but the bonus would quickly decrease in magnitude as tech progresses. By tech 8 it would already fall to "only" +25% CCA, and by tech 10 cavalry fire enters the picture.

Red Sea Trade

+10% Global Trade Power
+20% Trade Range

Doubled the bonuses to make the idea a bit less bad.

Nomad Cavalry Tactics

+10% Shock Damage

In the war against the Ottomans from 1485-1491, the Mamluks prevailed by using forces of nomadic cavalry against the more conventional Ottoman armies who consisted of a mix of infantry and light cavalry. This allowed the Mamluks to defeat a numerically superior Ottoman force during the Battle of Adana in 1485.

Reform the Fellah System

+10% Goods Produced

Moved forward a bit and removed by the strictly stronger Goods Produced, which also synergizes better with the Mamluks' trade focus.

Reform of the Succession

-15% Stability cost modifier

See above. Mamluks should have a strong military in the beginning, fall behind in the middle of the NI set and then surge again at the end.

Monopoly Ports

+10% Trade Efficiency

Reform of the Army

+5% Discipline

Reorganized Military Administration

+15% Manpower Recovery

Reshuffled "Purchase New Mamluks" idea, renamed to portray some sort of hypothetical reform for Mamluks that survived past 1517.

Ambition

+150 Colonial Range

Despite people complaining about Mamluks colonizing Indonesia, they were extremely present in the Indian Ocean. In fact, a protracted naval war with Portugal that started in 1505 drained the Sultanate's coffers and contributed to the Mamluks' end as a sovereign entity. If they had survived, they no doubt would have played a similar role to OTL Ottomans, propping up states in Africa, India and Indonesia to resist Portuguese advances.

Now to ask the real question, how can Prussian Ideas be considered any good if they dont boost sailors in the slightest?

You know, my probably hottest EU4 take is that Prussian Ideas aren't as good as people think they are (in SP). :D

Everything is obsolote if you already conquered everything. But steering and tradepower sllow you to control global trade without going full wc. I am not talking about controlling alexandria, im talking about funneling basicslly everything to you

Hey man Prussia have -10% recruitment time. Do you know how rare this is??? Other countries can only DREAM of recruiting units as fast as the glorious Prussians. This singlehandedly makes them A- tier.
