So in a previous run I just triggered it by getting big enough to be an eligible rival for Ming, in which case they will break tributary as soon as you pop the mission (but you get the reward of +1 diplo stat for your ruler so that's cool). This time I actually wanna become a Ming tributary (so I can vassalize Dai Viet) but it doesn't actually seem to be feasible because of the trust requirement. The wiki states that just 100 opinion is required (and I tested - it's not enough) which seems sensible enough to me. How can you even get 15 extra trust from Ming when you can't become a tributary otherwise, and they're guaranteed to rival you before you get strong enough to ally them?

Can't you farm trust by currying favours?

That's only possible if you have the Leviathan DLC though.

Well shouldn#t it increase when you are bigger or have higher diplo rep?

Also no one said it wasn't annoying.

EDIT: Well at that rate its "only" 41 years . Thats basically a life sentence for the poor diplomat.

The mission was changed in version 1.34 to fix some bugs. They also extended the mission to add the ruler stat increase, trust requirement and the ability to finish it if Ming is your rival.

Favor gain when you're not allies is still negligible and you need to put a diplomat at work for literal decades at which point you can scale enough that Ming will rival you as soon as you can. I'd be okay with the mission if it requires 55 trust, it's still a commitment to spend so much valuable diplomat time to curry favors.
