So, from what I've seen in the YT videos, vassals are basically the same as in other Paradox games, that is to say, smaller and less independant allies. I noticed that you can't really interact with your vassal in any meaningful way, he just has to provide his vision and troops to you and that's pretty much it.

I figured it would be a decent idea to have the ability to influence the vassals policies, after you expend a large amount of influence. I mean, you can change your own policies (or whatever it's called), so it would make sense you could do the same in a country you are allegedly dominating. Thoughts?

It would make sense you would also lose opinion (temporarily) in addition to the influence, due to the fact that most people wouldn't like when the dominating country basically demands you change your internal policies to suit their needs.

What I'm wondering is if you the player becomes a vassal, can you break away later? Can your AI vassals break away?

Will it be possible to give orders to vassals? Something like "defend this region" or "invade that planet". It was somewhat useless, when you have a strong fleet and they just "heel" you.

In the 19th video, the vassal would be much more useful, if they hunted the enemy, cleared wormhole stations or blockaded some other planets.
Thoughts?

You can definetely break away as a player vassal. The AI breaking away would be trickier, as far as I know the vassals are prohibited from colonizing new worlds and you already had to be more powerful than them to vassalize. Theoretically, if they are given enough time/resources to build and tech up, combined with whatever happened to your fleets and a massive relationship drop (let's say frequent tribute demands or whatnot) they could be provoked into a war against you.
