So I purchase this game today. I completed the tutorial. I was like "Ok easy enough". I choose Scotland & I can't make any money. A matter a fact I am losing money & now France has pulled me into a war with England. We already know what the outcome of that will be, Lol

How do you make money in this game?
Should I just start a new game with Spain?
Would Wealth of Nations make money easier to get?

Start with Castille or Ottomans.

You can reduce yoru spendings on army mainteinence.
You can destroy your forts, and keep only one in capital, and set it off during peace time.
You can rearange your merchants. collect money in North sea, and move from White Sea.
As Scotland you can focus on conquering Ireland. Just avoid that one duchy allied to England.

Wealth of Nations, lol...

It is ok not to have money in the start. It usually is like that.
Scotland is maybe not the best for a first game, yes. It doesn't have to be someone strong, but someone that doesn't have a strong neighbur..

edit: but sice you started, you could wait it out and see how it feels when you are just a sidekick in a war, it is a France-England war, France could win without you. You could even catch a province if the tables turn..

In my game as Scotland it seemed better to not ally France and just let them guarantee you. If you are allied then its likely that France will call you into a war against England where you will face the entire English army on your own as France will most likely not be able to transport troops across the channel. If you are not allies then you can pick the right time to attack when you actually have more troops than England.

Scotland isn't weak per se, but having a historical powerhouse as you southern neighbor who's primary goal in life is your annexation is certainly an unfavorable start. Best tips for Scotland are to expand into Ireland. If you take all of Ireland save the Pale, you should have double your development, once the provinces are well integrated they offer lots of development with generally no added defensive requirements. Your forcelimit in army and navy will also grow considerably.

Take a military idea first, quantity being a good choice for beginners. After that, exploration! Scotland with Ireland is in a great spot to colonize Canada,Quebec and even farther south. Nova Scotia, anyone? This can give you a power base that will let you eventually expand into England and turn the tide of history. Create Great Britain with a capital in Lothian! (JK, keep yourself yellow for achievement)

If England is too powerful or the New World doesn't seem fun, many riches can be had in the Dutch provinces. Grabbing Holland or Flanders at an opportune time with French help is a fantastic way to dominate English Channel trade.

Once you've done enough to be a powerful empire, go after France and vassalize them for a fun achievement, Auld Alliance Reversed.

Thank you all for the help, it's really appreciated. I am going to start over as Castille, then go back to Scotland. After that come back and buy AOW and CS, and then play a native tribe or Japan.
