A little background, though it wasn't known at the time, the Canadian PM at the time W. L. Makenzie-King was very much into the occult. So what if he had a Nostradamus-like vision of the future...

New Years Eve, Dec 31, 1935 - PM's Residence.

MacKenzie-King and several of his occult advisors were having their traditional New Year's Eve seance in his study.

Patrick noticed the PM turn white as a sheet and bug-eyed.
"Sir, what is it?"
Sweat popped off the PM's forehead.
"Sir?"
"Hitler..." The PM snapped back to the present dove for the phone.

He grabbed the phone, the paused and shook his head.
He looked around "Please leave."
They hesitiated. "I said leave."

After they left he sighed. Damn, can't tell Baldwin we need to declare war on germany in the morning. When I tell him why, he'll think I'm crazy."

He started pacing. "So, given that we can't just declare war and given that we don't have a secret sevice to bump him off, how do I get every one to prepare.? And what would be the best way to prepare between now and the summer of 39?"

He started rummaging around his files, reading up on Canada's economy, tech teams, officers...

"We are pathetic... But there is hope.... Industry is the key..."

****

In the first session of Parliment Makenzie-King made an impassioned speech on the need for Canada to move from being hewers of wood to becoming an industral power in its own right. The good union jobs from increased industry appealed to the left and the investment opportunities appealed to the right. And as per usual it would be built in Ontario and Quebec as those voters are the only ones that really matter to the average Canadian party leader.

In the game we started bulding 3 IC (Ottawa, Toronto, Quebec) and researching Basic Machine Tools and Basic Destroyer.

As for diplomacy I can't afford it yet...

Joint ventures and the Navy

Makenzie-King was pleased at the result of his industrial initiative. Besides reducing unemployment and increasing his popularity to an all-time-high, many British and Australian firms have signed joint ventures with Canadian industry providing access to much-needed technologies.

Overall he was feeling a bit more optimistic on the industrical and technological front. However the Canadian military was another matter. One division, no airforce, and single V class destroyer flotilla. As for the quality of leadership, well mediocre is the kindest description of the Canadian officer corps that he could come up with. "Well at least we're not saddled with tons of obsolete junk... Well that V class flotilla is. waste of supplies that..."

"Have to focus on quality over quanty, no other choice for us..."

In the game we scrapped the V class lvl 1 DD and recieved lots of blueprints, some usefull and some useless like GW BC (like Canada is ever going to build Battlecruisers!!!). Also moved slider one towards standing army.

As a realist

Thanks, I hope to. Of course I am a realist and am not going for WD. I do want Canada to make far more of a difference than IRL. I am still going to focus on Canada's traditional strengths of a small, well-trained army and a top-notch ASW navy. The RCAF will focus on INT-TAC and leave STRAT to the Brits and Yanks. Quality is the overall priority as I realistically can't build enough.

Cabinet shuffle

MacKenzie-King was vexed by the opposition from some of his cabinet to his various initiatives. "Well time to do a little house cleaning..."

Thomas Crenar as Minister of Security (-10 consumer goods need)
Kenneith Stuart as Chief of Staff (+25% manpower growth, -5% Inf Const bonus)

Getting more blueprints, which is good as I have only two tech slots and only average teams...

I demand ribbon-cuttings!

At least report if anything went ahistorical in the buildup to war.
