It makes historical sense and there is a legitimate gameplay need for it.
Trebizond would never have existed as an independent state if not for the military support given by Tamari the Great to her nephew, the first Trapezuntine Emperor. It is also largely thanks to Georgia that Trebizond was able to continue to exist for as long as it did.
At the moment, in game, there is a significant chance that when you start as Trebizond, Georgia will be hostile due to border friction, which should not be the case, seeing as Tamari the Great specifically wanted Trebizond to serve as a buffer zone between Georgia and Anatolia. It also, obviously makes survival as Trebizond more difficult, as Georgia is a logical first ally.
