The way the naval combat works right now is very odd, it seems to imply that all naval guns are standard issue and poundage, it would make much more sense, and be open to much more moddability.

Standard naval guns ranged from 3-4 pounds all the way up to around 50 pounds, treating the damage from a large line ship that would have a standard armament of 36 pounds on its main gun deck as having the same kind of guns as a frigate is weird, even more so if you compare a frigate to a razee.

it makes so much more sense to give a broadside weight than a gun number, say give a "two decker" around 800lb broadside, rather than 74 guns, which are ultimately a bit bizarre in its current form, where as a frigate would have a much lower number like 250lb.

The current opaque nature of more guns is better makes little sense, in an ideal world I would like to see both guns and broadside weight represented but realistically a poundage makes far more sense.

Everything about the statistical representation of ships is weird, really, and my gut reaction is that making the numbers more simulationist would probably actually amplify the weirdness.
