I just came accross a post in which the poster claimed that values in EUIV were transparent by design decision, so that the player has the information he needs to act. It makes sense as unlike the AI, a player cannot be bothered to read all the relevant information and doesn't know it's arcane reasoning.

This old post by atwix refers to relative strenght, a value that is used in threaten war mechanics, the league war, rivalry, and more generally in any war calculation the AI makes. The AI also uses it when he determines whether he wants to keep the alliance or not. However, at other times, we are left guessing.

It seems to me this is one of the last value the player doesn't have access to and that remains in a veiled mystery to this day.

Let's face it, EUIV is a game about staring on numbers and hoping they change. So making the player know that he is at -5 before the coalition attacks him, or -1 before the league war happens, appears to be a stressful (good stress, lol) way to engage him in the game. How many times have I wondered if I were even close to disband the coalition!

Maybe such an option could be disabled, since it only consists in obfuscating a value the AI has access to and that exists in the background.

I have my reservations about my own proposal, especially since it could make the game easier since the player would know exactly what to do to obtain a result. Like, if I attack this country, the coalition would fall at a low enough relative strenght that it would disband...

But let's say my curiosity beats those.
